Justin Lewis (cricketer)
Justin Lewis (born 30 December 1982) is a Zimbabwean cricketer. He played twenty-five first-class matches between 1999 and 2011. Career Justin Lewis got his start playing cricket in their garden at age four. He started playing cricket in Grade Three at Goldridge Primary School, where he was promoted to the school senior team in Grade Four. He was initially more focused on batting, achieving his best score of 30 not out. Lewis began as a leg-spin bowler but shifted to seam around 1997-98. During high school, Lewis attended Plumtree School before moving to Camelot High School in Kwekwe. He achieved significant milestones including scoring 177 not out against Kwekwe College and making the Midlands Under-16 team. Lewis changed his bowling style inspired by Wasim Akram and joined the Queens cricket club in Kwekwe at 13. Redcliff, Zimbabwe
Redcliff is a town situated in the Midlands Province of Zimbabwe, with a population of 41,526 (as of 2022). It lies about north-east of Bulawayo. The town sits in an extremely iron-rich area, and has relied on steel production as a source of revenue since it was founded in the early part of the 20th century. The Zimbabwe Iron and Steel Company (ZISCO, formerly RISCO, founded in 1942), which is based in Redcliff, was the town's largest employer until it closed down in 2008. History Education The only school in Redcliff in the 1980s was Redcliff Primary School, which offered education to children aged around 5 to 13. Cricket
Cricket is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams of eleven players on a field at the centre of which is a pitch with a wicket at each end, each comprising two bails balanced on three stumps. The batting side scores runs by striking the ball bowled at one of the wickets with the bat and then running between the wickets, while the bowling and fielding side tries to prevent this (by preventing the ball from leaving the field, and getting the ball to either wicket) and dismiss each batter (so they are "out"). Means of dismissal include being bowled, when the ball hits the stumps and dislodges the bails, and by the fielding side either catching the ball after it is hit by the bat, but before it hits the ground, or hitting a wicket with the ball before a batter can cross the crease in front of the wicket. First-class Cricket
First-class cricket, along with List A cricket and Twenty20 cricket, is one of the highest-standard forms of cricket. A first-class match is one of three or more days' scheduled duration between two sides of eleven players each and is officially adjudged to be worthy of the status by virtue of the standard of the competing teams. Matches must allow for the teams to play two innings each, although in practice a team might play only one innings or none at all. The etymology of "first-class cricket" is unknown, but it was used loosely before it acquired official status in 1895, following a meeting of leading English clubs. Goldridge College (or Goldridge) is a co-educational, independent, boarding and day senior school in Kwekwe, Zimbabwe. Plumtree School
Plumtree School is a boarding school for boys and girls in the Matabeleland region of Zimbabwe on the border with Botswana. Founded in 1902 by a railway mission, Plumtree School boards 500+ pupils. Recently the school announced it will start enrolling girls as of January 2016. Historical background In 1897 a siding on the railway line between Mafeking and Bulawayo was named Plumtree. It lies on the watershed of the Western Matabeleland Highveld at an altitude of 1389 metres 100 kilometres from Bulawayo. Logan Cup
The Logan Cup is the premier domestic first-class cricket competition in Zimbabwe. It is named after James Douglas Logan. History The first recorded cricket match in what was known at the time as Rhodesia was played in August 1890 near Fort Victoria. Within the next ten years, matches were played with more regularity and the most significant match was between teams representing Salisbury and Bulawayo. In 1903, James Douglas Logan presented Rhodesia's cricket teams with a cup to compete for, which was named the Logan Cup after him.
