Justin Berkmann
Justin Berkmann (born December 1963), is a DJ and nightclub owner. He is the second son of Joseph Berkmann and his second wife, Jean Berkmann (née Barwis) and younger brother of Marcus Berkmann, an author. They were both educated at Highgate School in North London. Berkmann is the co-founder of the nightclub and brand, Ministry of Sound (now MSHK Group). Since its conception in 1991, the company has grown from a nightclub in London’s Elephant and Castle to a multi-media business. Berkmann's initial involvement was from January 1990 until May 1994, and he was resident DJ and Artistic Director during that period. He then rejoined in 2006 to build their franchise clubs in Singapore and Kuala Lumpur. It was found out in August 2018 that Berkmann is 4th cousin once removed to Coronation Street actor Liam Bairstow who plays Alex Warner. Marcus Berkmann
Marcus Berkmann (born 14 July 1960) is a journalist and author. Life Berkmann was educated at Highgate School and Worcester College, Oxford. His younger brother is the DJ Justin Berkmann. He began his career as a freelance journalist, contributing to computer and gaming magazines such as ''Your Sinclair''. In the 1990s he had stints as television critic for the '' Daily Mail'' and the '' Sunday Express'' and has written a monthly pop music column for ''The Spectator'' since 1987. With his schoolfriend Harry Thompson, he scripted the BBC Radio comedy '' Lenin of the Rovers''. He came to prominence with his book, '' Rain Men'' (1995), which humorously chronicles the formation and adventures of his own cricket touring team, the Captain Scott Invitation XI. Tony Humphries (musician)
Tony Humphries is an American electronic musician and Disc jockey, DJ. He was one of the earliest proponents of house music and has been instrumental in spreading the genre on both sides of the Atlantic. Humphries' work encompasses studio production and remixes, radio slots on WEPN-FM#As WRKS (1981-2012), WRKS 98.7 Kiss FM and Hot 97, and DJ residencies at clubs including Club Zanzibar (Newark, New Jersey) and Ministry of Sound in London, UK. Focusing on the early years of the club, the box set contains five discs, each an iconic DJ set performed live at the Ministry of Sound from 1991 to 1994. Club Zanzibar was a dance club that opened in 1979 at 430 Broad Street in Newark, New Jersey. Its presence in Downtown Newark was noted for its influence on house music and garage house genres and scene. Club Zanzibar, along with other gay and straight clubs in the era, was both a straight and LGBT black and Latino nightlife destination. The Jersey Sound DJ Tony Humphries began his residency at the club in 1982 and, along with others, helped "spawn the sometimes raw but always soulful, gospel-infused subgenre" of house music known as the Jersey sound.
