Jacqueline Galant
Jacqueline Galant is a Belgian politician from the Mouvement Réformateur. She was the Minister of Mobility, responsible for Belgocontrol and the National Railway Company of Belgium, in the federal Belgian Michel Government from 11 October 2014 until she resigned on 15 April 2016 in the wake of the 2016 Brussels bombings. She remains the mayor of Jurbise. Biography Jacqueline Galant was born in Mons on 18 March 1974. She was the daughter of the mayor of Jurbise, Jacques Galant, from the Christian Social Party. She got a Master in Political Sciences at the Catholic university of Mons. In 1999 she started working as an advisor to Louis Michel, then Belgian foreign minister and vice-prime minister. She ended this work when she became a Member of Parliament in 2003, a position she kept until 2014, when she became a member of the Parliament of Wallonia from May until October. Mons
Mons (; German and nl, Bergen, ; Walloon and pcd, Mont) is a city and municipality of Wallonia, and the capital of the province of Hainaut, Belgium. Mons was made into a fortified city by Count Baldwin IV of Hainaut in the 12th century. The population grew quickly, trade flourished, and several commercial buildings were erected near the ''Grand’Place''. In 1814, King William I of the Netherlands increased the fortifications, following the fall of the First French Empire. The Industrial Revolution and coal mining made Mons a centre of heavy industry. In 1830, Belgium gained its independence and the decision was made to dismantle the fortifications, allowing the creation of large boulevards and other urban projects. On 2324 August 1914, Mons was the location of the Battle of Mons. Chièvres (; pcd, Chieve) is a city and municipality of Wallonia located in the province of Hainaut, Belgium. On January 1, 2018, Chièvres had a total population of 6,899. The Reformist Movement (french: Mouvement Réformateur, MR) is a liberal French-speaking political party in Belgium. MR is traditionally a conservative-liberal party, but it also contains social-liberal factions.
