Junín, Peru
Junín is a city in Central Peru, capital of the Junín Province in the Department of Junín. It is located on the southern shore of Lake Junín, at an elevation of 4,107 m (13,474 ft). It was founded as Town of Kings in 1539 and elevated to city level by the Law No. 9834, on October 27, 1943, during the presidency of Manuel Prado Ugarteche. According to the ''Organic Law of Regional Governments'', the regions ( es, regiones) are, with the departments, the first-level administrative subdivisions of Peru. Since its Peruvian War of Independence, 1821 independence, Peru had been divided into departments of Peru, departments () but faced the problem of increasing centralization of political and economic power in its capital, Lima. After several unsuccessful regionalization attempts, the national government decided to temporarily provide the departments (including the Constitutional Province of Callao) with regional governments until the conformation of regions according to the ''Organic Law of Regional Governments'' which says that two or more departments should merge to conform a region. The provinces of Peru () are the second-level administrative subdivisions of the country. They are divided into Districts of Peru, districts ( es, distritos, links=no). Junín Province is a province in northwestern Junín Region, in the central highlands of Peru. Its capital is the city of Junín. Geography The territory of the province is mountainous and it includes Lake Junin which is the largest lake entirely on Peruvian territory, and the second-largest lake in the country after Lake Titicaca. Lake Junin
Lake Junin (; Spanish ''Lago Junín'', named after the nearby town of Junin) or Chinchaycocha (possibly from Quechua ''chincha, chinchay'' north, northern, ''chinchay'' ocelot, ''qucha'' lake, lagoon, "northern lake" or "ocelot lake") is the largest lake entirely within Peruvian territory. Manuel Prado Ugarteche
Manuel Carlos Prado y Ugarteche (April 21, 1889 – August 15, 1967) was a banker who served twice as President of Peru. Son of former president Mariano Ignacio Prado, he was born in Lima and served as the nation's 43rd (1939 - 1945) and 46th (1956 - 1962) President. His brother, Leoncio Prado Gutiérrez, was a military hero who died in 1883, six years before Manuel Prado was born. Prado was born in April 1889 as the son of Mariano Ignacio Prado. He went to college and became a banker. In 1915, Prado, along with General Benavides, overthrew Guillermo Billinghurst and his government during the First World War, in which Peru remained neutral. Benavides became the president of the Junta. Later imprisoned, he was deported to Chile and went into exile in France. Gladys Lucy Tejeda Pucuhuaranga (born 30 September 1985 in Jauja, Junín) is a Peruvian long-distance runner. Biography She competed in women's marathon at the 2012 Summer Olympics. Further she was selected as Peru's flag-bearer for the 2012 Summer Olympics Parade of Nations. In 2013, she finished as champion in the XXXI edition of the Mexico City Marathon with a time of 2:37:35. She finished in third place at Pan-American Games, in Guadalajara, 2011. In 2015, she won the Marathon Gold Medal in the Pan American Games, setting a new Pan-American record of 2:33:05. A few weeks after the games, Julio César Maglione, president of the Pan American Sports Organization announced that Gladys Tejeda tested positive for doping, which she denied.
