Jungangno Station (Daegu Metro)
Jungangno Station is a station of Daegu Metro Line 1 in Jung-gu, Daegu, South Korea. With its prime location at the heart of Daegu and its proximity to a major shopping district, it is the second-busiest station in the Daegu Metro, after Banwoldang Station, which is the only transfer point between the Line 1 and Line 2. Many facilities, including a branch of Kyobo Book Centre, movie theaters, and several large banks are in the vicinity. This station served as the terminus point for Line 1 from November 26, 1997, to May 2, 1998. Despite its large foot traffic, the platforms for this station are narrower than other Line 1 stations. It is also connected to the Daehyun PriMall, an underground shopping center, giving it a much larger than normal access area. In 2003, an arsonist set fire to a train stopped at Jungangno Station. Jung District, Daegu
Jung District (Jung-gu) is a ''gu'', or district, covering the downtown area of Daegu, South Korea. It borders most of the other districts of Daegu, including Nam-gu to the south, Seo-gu to the west, Buk-gu to the north, and Dong-gu and Suseong-gu to the east. The northern border is formed by the Gyeongbu Line railroad, and the eastern border by the Sincheon stream. Jung-gu is at the nexus of Daegu Subway Line 1 and Daegu Subway Line 2. Daegu Subway Line 3 will also pass through the district when it is completed. Daegu (, , literally 'large hill', 대구광역시), formerly spelled Taegu and officially known as the Daegu Metropolitan City, is a city in South Korea. Daegu Metro Line 1
Daegu Metro Line 1 was, until mid-2005, the only rapid transit line in the South Korean city of Daegu. It is operated by the Daegu Metropolitan Transit Corporation. The line color is carmine. The line first began running from Jincheon to Jungangno on November 26, 1997. The section from Jungnangno to Ansim was opened shortly thereafter, on May 2, 1998. The west end of the line was extended from Jincheon to Daegok, reaching its current length on May 10, 2002. However, service on the entire line was stopped for several months in 2003 following the Daegu subway fire. Line 1's 28.4 kilometer course lies entirely within the metropolitan city of Daegu, although proposals have been made to extend it into the northern end of Gyeongsan city. , trains run 312 times per day during the week, and 288 times on weekends and holidays. The ''Kyobo Book Centre'' (, also known as ''Kyobo Mungo'') is the largest bookstore chain in South Korea. It has ten stores in seven cities, with the flagship Main Store, or Gwanghwamun-jeom in Seoul, which is located in the basement of the Kyobo Building, at 1 Jong-ro, Jongno-gu in Seoul's central business district. Daegu Subway Fire
The Daegu subway fire occurred on February 18, 2003, when an arsonist set fire to a train; 192 people died and 151 others were injured at the Jungangno station of the Daegu Metropolitan Subway in Daegu, South Korea. The fire had spread across two trains within minutes. It remains the deadliest deliberate loss of life in a single incident in South Korean peacetime history, succeeding the previous record set by a 1982 mass shooting.
