June 2013 Karachi Bombing
On 26 June 2013, a bomb exploded near Burns Road killing nine people and injuring fifteen in Karachi, Pakistan. The bomb was intended to blow up Sindh High Court justice Maqbool Baqar's convoy. The bomb was located on a motorbike near a mosque. Five of the people killed in the bomb explosion were police officers. On 17 July 2013, DIG South Dr Ameer Sheikh claimed that police arrested Bashir Leghari, suspected of being the mastermind of the attack on the judge's convoy, along with two of his accomplices in an operation carried out in Karachi's Surjani Town. Sindh High Court
The High Court of Sindh ( ur, ) is the highest judicial institution of the Pakistani province of Sindh. Established in 1906, the Court situated in the provincial capital at Karachi. Maqbool Baqar
Maqbool Baqar ( ur, ) is a Pakistani jurist who has served as the Chief Justice of the Sindh High Court and as a justice of the Supreme Court of Pakistan. He is the former the Caretaker Chief Minister of Sindh who served in this position from 17 August 2023 till 27 February 2024. Early life and education He was born on 5 April 1957 in Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan. He finished his LLB from the University of Karachi in 1979. Judicial career He began his judicial career as an advocate in the Sindh High Court (SHC) in May 1981. Burns Road (also spelled Burnes Road, and formally known as Muhammad Bin Qasim Road) is a street located in Karachi, Pakistan. March 2013 Karachi Bombing
The March 2013 Karachi bombing was a terrorist attack that struck a predominantly Shia area inside Abbas Town, Gulshan-e-Iqbal Town in Karachi, Pakistan on 3 March 2013. At least 48+ people were killed and more than 180+ others injured after a car bomb was detonated outside a Shia mosque mosque, just as locals were leaving after the evening's services. As rescuers gathered to the scene of the bombings, a second blast caused even more destruction. Authorities suspected the Sunni militant group Lashkar-e Jhangvi of being behind the attacks. This was the first major incident within the city since a wave of target killings left more than 300 dead in the summer of 2011.
