Julius Miller
Julius Miller (January 12, 1880 – February 3, 1955) was a judge and politician in New York City. He was a public figue for fuur decades, seving as Manhattan Borough President from 1922 to 1930, and as a New York State Supreme Court judge from 1933 to 1950. He who is best remembered for pushing through the West Side Elevated Highway from 72nd Street to the tip of Manhattan. Life Miller was Jewish. He graduated from New York Law School and became an attorney in 1901. Miller was a member of the New York State Senate (17th D.) in 142nd New York State Legislature, 1919 and 143rd New York State Legislature, 1920. He was borough president of Manhattan from 1922 to 1930. In 1924 he was an alternate delegate to the 1924 Democratic National Convention. In 1933 he became a justice of the New York Supreme Court (1st D.), and served until 1950. Samuel Levy
Samuel Levy (March 17, 1876 – March 15, 1953) was an American lawyer, businessman, and public official, who served as Manhattan Borough President. Life and career Levy was born in New York City on March 17, 1876, to a Jewish family. He graduated from the University of the City of New York (now New York University) in 1894 and received a law degree from New York Law School in 1896. In addition to maintaining a law practice, Levy was a successful businessman, with his primary interests being real estate investment and development. A Democrat, he served on the New York Board of Education from 1929 to 1931. In 1931, Levy was appointed to complete an unexpired term as Manhattan Borough President. He won election to a full four-year term in 1933. Levy considered a run for Mayor in 1937. He instead backed Senator Royal S. Courtlandt Nicoll (December 2, 1880 in New York City – September 20, 1938 in Water Mill, Suffolk County, New York) was an American lawyer and politician from New York. Early life He was the son of Benjamin Nicoll (1855–1921) and Grace Davison ( née Lord) Nicoll. His younger sister, Elsie Nicoll (1887–1947), married John Sloane, Jr. (1883–1971), chairman of W. & J. Sloane, in 1917. the nephew of William D. Sloan and Emily Thorn Vanderbilt. His father was a coal and steel merchant who, upon his 1921 death, left his estate three-fifths to Courtlandt and two-fifths to his sister Elsie, after providing for a $850,000 trust for their mother.
