Julio Conde
Julio Conde (Villalba de los Alcores, Valladolid, 1915 - Madrid, 1995) was a Spanish luthier trained by his uncle Domingo Esteso at his workshop in Madrid, where Julio worked with his brothers Faustino y Mariano, establishing Hermanos Conde trademark. History In 1915, with the opening of his workshop, the luthier Domingo Esteso created a new form of conceiving the handmade construction of the Spanish Guitar, with his wife Nicolasa Salamanca varnishing the guitars. Some years later, a young Julio Conde, master's nephew, began to work with his brothers Faustino and Mariano, in their uncle's workshop, learning and developing his special and elaborated handmade manufacturing technique. Luthier
A luthier ( ; AmE also ) is a craftsperson who builds or repairs string instruments that have a neck and a sound box. The word "luthier" is originally French and comes from the French word for lute. The term was originally used for makers of lutes, but it came to be used already in French for makers of most bowed and plucked stringed instruments such as members of the violin family (including violas, cellos, and double basses) and guitars. Domingo Esteso
Domingo Esteso (1882–1937) was a luthier who trained under Manuel Ramírez. His nephews, Faustino, Mariano and Julio Conde inherited his workshop and changed the name to Conde Hermanos. Nowadays, the family tradition established by Domingo Esteso is being continued at their workshops in central Madrid by Felipe Conde at 4 Arrieta St., Mariano Conde at 1 Amnistia St. next to Opera metro station and Julio Conde's sons and granddaughter at 53 Atocha St. Esteso concentrated almost exclusively on building flamenco-style guitars, and his instruments are world-renowned for their physical lightness, yet very strong volume and sound-projection. A crack-free and unmolested example can cost several tens of thousands, either Euros or $. Hermanos Conde
Hermanos Conde (Conde Brothers) are luthiers, makers of classical and flamenco guitars. History The Conde dynasty was founded in Madrid by Domingo Esteso in 1915. Esteso trained his nephews Faustino and Mariano Conde Sr. Later, the young Julio Conde joined his brothers. Domingo Esteso died in 1937, and after that time the three Conde Brothers continued working for Esteso's widow under the name of "Viuda y Sobrinos de Esteso" (Esteso's Widow and Nephews) until 1960. In the early 1950s, Julio Conde set up a new handicraft guitar center. Niño Ricardo
Manuel Serrapí Sánchez (11 July 1904 – 14 April 1972), better known as Niño Ricardo, was a Flamenco composer, considered by some sources as the most accomplished flamenco player of his day. He played a significant part in the evolution of the flamenco guitar. He lived in the city center of Sevilla. A child guitar prodigy, his early audiences referred to him as the son of Ricardo, leading to his stage-name Niño eRicardo. Sabicas (proper name: Agustín Castellón Campos) (16 March 1912 – 14 April 1990) was a Spanish flamenco guitarist of Romani origin. Biography Sabicas was born in Pamplona, Spain, and began playing guitar at the age of five and made his performing debut two years later. His early style was influenced by Ramón Montoya, to whom he was related on his mother's side of the family. Extensive collaboration with important ''cantaores'' (male flamenco singers) of the period helped him develop his personal style. Leaving Spain in 1936 during the Spanish Civil War, he went into exile in Latin America with ''bailaora'' (dancer) Carmen Amaya. He lived in Mexico City, married Esperanza González Erazo and had four children: Maricruz 1944, Carlos 1946, Agustine 1952 and Margaret 1956. Melchor De Marchena
Melchor de Marchena (19071980; born Melchor Jimenez Torres) was a Spanish flamenco guitarist. Born in Marchena, Spain, he is considered to be one of the most representative artists with a "gypsy touch", along with Diego del Gastor. His love of flamenco comes from a family environment. His father, "El Lico" was a guitarist in his own right, while his mother "La Josefita", was a singer, as was one of his aunts, artistically known as "La Gilica de Marchena", who sang Soleá. Two of his brothers, Chicho Melchor and Miguel el Bizco, were also guitarists, like his son Enrique de Melchor (1950–2012), who continued the family tradition. Francisco Sánchez Gómez (21 December 194725 February 2014), known as Paco de Lucía (;), was a Spanish virtuoso flamenco guitarist, composer, and record producer. Juan Ignacio Gómez Gorjón, better known as Juan Gómez "Chicuelo", (born 1968) is a Spanish flamenco guitarist from Barcelona, composer and director. Although he worked with a wide range of artists, Chicuelo is usually accompanied by the singer Miguel Poveda and singer Duquende, with whom he has toured extensively in Europe, Japan and the US and made many recordings with.
