Jules Charles-Roux
Jules Charles-Roux (14 November 1841 – 6 March 1918) was a French businessman and politician. He served as the vice president of the Suez Canal Company. He served as a corporate director of shipping companies in the Antilles, West Africa and French Indochina. He was a supporter of the French colonial empire. Early life Jules Charles-Roux was born on 14 November 1841 in Marseille, France. His father founded La Maison Charles-Roux, a soap factory, in 1828. His paternal ancestor, Georges Roux, was a merchant in the Antilles in the 18th century. Charles-Roux graduated from Aix-Marseille University, where he studied chemistry. Career Charles-Roux started his career by working for his father's company. He subsequently worked for the Marseille chamber of commerce. Léon Say
Jean-Baptiste-Léon Say (6 June 1826, Paris – 21 April 1896, Paris) was a French statesman and diplomat. One of the 19th-century's noted economists, he served as French Finance Minister from 1872 until 1883. Biography The Say family is a most remarkable one. His grandfather Jean-Baptiste Say was a well-known economist. His brother Louis-Auguste Say (1774–1840) was a director of a sugar refinery at Nantes who wrote several books on economics; his son, Horace-Émile Say (1794–1860), Léon Say's father, was educated at Geneva, before travelling in America. Claire de Forbin La Barben (; 10 April 1908 – 1992) fought with the French Resistance during World War II. Married to the last marquess of Forbin-la Barben, she was the lover of Isabel Pell and Mercedes de Acosta. Biography Claire Charles-Roux was born on 10 April 1908 in Avignon, the daughter of Charles Wulfran Marie Louis Charles-Roux (1875–1918) and Henriette Marie "Magdeleine" Yvaren (1887–1979). François Charles-Roux
François Charles-Roux (19 November 1879 – 26 June 1961) was a French businessman, historian and diplomat. He was born in Marseille. Biography Charles-Roux, the son of Jules Charles-Roux, studied at the École libre des sciences politiques. This led to a diplomatic career in Paris, St. Petersburg, Constantinople, Cairo, London and Prague before being appointed Ambassador of France to the Holy See in 1932. In May 1940, he succeeded Alexis Léger to the position of Secretary General of the French Foreign Ministry but left office the following October. After World War II, he was a strong supporter of keeping the French colonial empire including the ultra group Présence française which fought for the maintenance of the French protectorate in Morocco. Order of the Medjidie ( ota, نشانِ مجیدی, August 29, 1852 – 1922) is a military and civilian order of the Ottoman Empire. The Order was instituted in 1851 by Sultan Abdulmejid I. History Instituted in 1851, the Order was awarded in five classes, with the First Class being the highest. The Order was issued in considerable numbers by Sultan Abdülmecid as a reward for distinguished service to members of the British Army and the Royal Navy and the French Army who came to the aid of the Ottoman Empire during the Crimean War against Russia and to British recipients for later service in Egypt and/or the Sudan.
