Judy Gordon
Judith Dawn Gordon (February 19, 1948 – December 1, 2020) was a provincial and municipal level politician from Alberta, Canada. She has served as a Member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta, and as mayor of Lacombe. Provincial political career Gordon ran for a seat in the Alberta Legislature after serving as mayor of Lacombe from 1989 to 1993. She won the new electoral district of Lacombe-Stettler in the 1993 Alberta general election winning easily defeating five other candidates to earn her first term in provincial office. She was elected to her second term in the 1997 Alberta general election. Her popular vote slightly decreased but she won her seat with a much bigger margin. Gordon was re-elected to a landslide winning her third term in office in the 2001 Alberta general election. Alberta ( ) is one of the thirteen provinces and territories of Canada. It is part of Western Canada and is one of the three prairie provinces. Alberta is bordered by British Columbia to the west, Saskatchewan to the east, the Northwest Territories (NWT) to the north, and the U.S. state of Montana to the south. 2007 Alberta Municipal Elections
Municipal elections were held in Alberta, Canada on Monday, October 15, 2007. Since 1968, provincial legislation has required every municipality to hold triennial elections. Mayors ( reeves), councillors (aldermen), and trustees were elected to office in 15 of the 16 cities, all 111 towns, all 99 villages, all 4 specialized municipalities, all 64 municipal districts, 3 of the 7 improvement districts, and the advisory councils of the 3 special areas. The City of Lloydminster is on the Saskatchewan schedule (every three years), and held elections on October 25, 2006 and October 28, 2009, while 4 improvement districts (Nos. 12, 13, 24, and 25) have no councils and are led solely by the Minister of Municipal Affairs. 2001 Alberta General Election
The 2001 Alberta general election was held on March 12, 2001 to elect members of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta. The incumbent Alberta Progressive Conservative Party, led by Ralph Klein, won a strong majority for its tenth consecutive term in government. In addition to increasing its share of the popular vote to almost 62%, the PC Party won a majority of seats in Edmonton for the first time since 1982. In the process, they reduced the opposition to only nine MLAs in total. It was the Tories' biggest majority since the height of the Peter Lougheed era. The Alberta Liberal Party, Liberal Party lost 11 seats and ran up a large debt. Its leader, Nancy MacBeth, was defeated in her electoral district (Canada), riding.
