Jud, Texas
Jud is a ghost town in extreme western Haskell County, Texas, United States. It lies on FM 617, west of Rochester. The Double Mountain Fork and Salt Fork Brazos River merge about west of present-day Jud to form the Brazos River. History Jud is a farming community. Each summer, a music festival named JUD FEST takes place with performances by local and regional Texas country artists and a meat cookoff. Rath City, Texas
Rath City was a frontier town that existed for fewer than five years, and is now a ghost town. The town was located on the Double Mountain Fork Brazos River, 14 miles northwest of Hamlin in southern Stonewall County, Texas, United States. History The town was founded in 1876. Its original establishment was meant to capitalize on the buffalo trade, and it was Stonewall County's first settlement. In 1877, the town housed a store, two saloons, a dance hall, and a few tents and dugouts. The town's namesake was Charles Rath, whose store, built in 1875, was the structure around which the village grew. Double Mountains is the name of a pair of flat-topped buttes located southwest of Aspermont in Stonewall County, Texas. While the '' Handbook of Texas'' gives their elevation as either or , United States Geological Survey maps give the elevation of the western mountain as and that of the eastern mountain as between . Together, the mountains form part of the high ground dividing the watersheds of the Salt Fork and Double Mountain Fork Brazos River.
