Jotunheimvegen
Jotunheimvegen is a long toll road through Jotunheimen in Innlandet county in Norway which is only open in the summer, from the end of June until it starts to snow, generally in October. It is a gravel road. Route The road goes from Skåbu to Finnbolslia as Slangslivegen and crosses the Flekka river, where the name changes to Jotunheimvegen. It crosses the mountain plateau then approximately follows the northern shores of the lakes Sandvatnet and Vinstri until the road RV 51 near where the lake Bygdin flows into Vinstri. The ski resort of Beitostølen is approximately from the western terminus. From the eastern terminus, on the opposite side of the Olstappen lake is the Peer Gynt (mountainroad), Peer Gynt tourist road to Lillehammer. Nearby is also the Ormtjernkampen National Park. Vinstri
Vinstre is a lake in Innlandet county, Norway. The lake lies in Øystre Slidre Municipality and the very western tip of the lake crosses over into the neighboring Vang, Innlandet, Vang Municipality. The lake sits at an elevation of above sea level. Vinstre was regulated in connection with the construction of the Øvre Vinstra hydroelectric power plant. The lake Bygdin flows into this lake and on the opposite end, it flows out into the dammed lake Sandvatnet/Kaldfjorden/Øyvatnet which is the headwaters for the river Vinstra (river), Vinstra. Along its northern shore runs the Jotunheimvegen summer toll road, built in the 1950s as a result of hydroelectricity development affecting the operation of the earlier milk boat service. Name The name of the lake is (maybe) derived from the verb which means "bend", "twist", or "wind" with the suffix ''-str'' added to the end. Jotunheimen
Jotunheimen (; "the home of the Jötunn") is a mountainous area of roughly in southern Norway and is part of the long range known as the Scandinavian Mountains. The 29 highest mountains in Norway are all located in the Jotunheimen mountains, including the tall mountain Galdhøpiggen (the highest point in Norway). The Jotunheimen mountains straddle the border between Innlandet and Vestland counties (historically part of the old Oppland and Sogn og Fjordane counties). Tourism Jotunheimen is very popular with hikers and climbers, and the Norwegian Mountain Touring Association maintains a number of mountain lodges in the area, as well as marked trails that run between the lodges and others that run up to some of the peaks. Beitostølen
Beitostølen is a village in Øystre Slidre Municipality in Innlandet county, Norway. The village is located at an elevation of about above mean sea level on the southern edge of the Valdresflye mountain plateau. The villages of Skammestein and Hegge lie about to the southeast of Beitostølen. The lake Øyangen lies a short distance to the southwest of the village. The Norwegian County Road 51 runs through the village. The village has a population (2021) of 358 and a population density of . The Peer Gynt Road (Norway: ''Peer Gynt Vegen'') is a 60-kilometre-long tourist mountain road, named for the folkloric character Per Gynt. It is a toll road. It runs in the east of Norway in Innlandet county with views of Jotunheimen, along the villages Skeikampen, Fagerhøy, Gålå, Fefor and Dalseter. Olstappen
Olstappen is a lake in Nord-Fron Municipality in Innlandet county, Norway. The southeastern shore of the lake forms the municipal border with Sør-Fron Municipality. The lies about south of the village of Skåbu. The Vinstra river, coming from the southwest, flows into the west side of Olstappen and flows out of Olstappen's northeast corner, and from there it heads east into the Gudbrandsdalslågen river at the town of Vinstra. Skåbu is a village in Nord-Fron Municipality in Innlandet county, Norway. The village is located along the river Vinstra (river), Vinstra, about southwest of the town of Vinstra. Skåbu has about 600 inhabitants. Skåbu Church is located in the village. Skåbu is situated at an elevation of above sea level which makes it the highest permanently inhabited village in Norway.
