José Tadeo Mancheño
José Tadeo Mancheño y Laso de la Vega (ca. 1784–1855) was a Chilean political figure. Mancheño was born in Santiago, the son of José Antonio Mancheño and of Angelina Laso de la Vega. He was trained as a lawyer at the Universidad de San Felipe, where he graduated on October 29, 1810. He married Antonia Elizalde, and together they had eight children. During the Chilean War of Independence, he alternatively supported both sides. In the ''Patria Vieja'' period, he was Secretary of Foreign Affairs between October 9, 1813 until March 9, 1814, nominated by the junta headed by José Miguel Infante. After the Spanish ''Reconquista'', he served as juridical assessor and secretary of the Cabildo (''City hall'') of Santiago, a position he retained after the Battle of Chacabuco and the collapse of the Colonial government. Jaime De Zudáñez
Jaime de Zudáñez (25 July 1776, in Chuquisaca – 1832, in Montevideo) was a Bolivian politician and hero of the independence of three countries in South America. Biography Zudáñez was born in the city of La Plata, Chuquisaca, in present-day Bolivia. He graduated as a lawyer in 1792, and continued his studies at the Academia Carolina, where he obtained a graduate degree in 1795 and was appointed Public Defender of Indigents. He was central to the independence movement that started in Chuquisaca on May 25, 1809, when after being arrested on suspicions of conspiracy, he publicly cried for help while being conducted to jail. A mob responded by taking over the city and capturing the authorities. The Colonial authorities, after the recapture of the city, sent him as a prisoner to Callao, in Peru. The Supreme Court of Chile is the highest court in Chile. It also administers the lower courts in the nation. It is located in the capital Santiago. In the Chilean system, the court lacks the broader power of judicial review—it cannot set binding precedent or invalidate laws. Instead, it acts on a case-by-case basis. Trials are carried out in ''salas'', chambers of at least five judges, presided over by the most senior member. Membership The members of the Supreme Court are appointed by the President from a list of five choices prepared by the sitting members of the court.
