José Ozámiz
José Ozámiz y Fortich (May 5, 1898 – February 11, 1944) was a Spanish Filipino lawyer and politician from Misamis Occidental. Early life Ozámiz was born on May 5, 1898 in house near the “old bridge” in Moran to Jenaro Ozámiz from Navarre, Spain and Basilisa Fortich, a Filipino mestizo of Spanish and Cebuano ancestry. Jenaro left Spain at age sixteen and came to Moran, then ended up at the Municipality of Jimenez and engaged in the business of abacá and copra trading which made him very rich, acquiring through the years in tile province and ranch in Bukidnon. José spoke his first languages Spanish, Cebuano, Tagalog and English when Philippines came under American rule. He was the oldest and the only son among ten children. Cebuano People
The Cebuano people ( ceb, Mga Sugbuanon) are the largest subgroup of the larger ethnolingustic group Visayans, who constitute the largest Filipino ethnolinguistic group in the country. Their primary language is the Cebuano language, an Austronesian language. They originated in the province of Cebu in the region of Central Visayas, but then later spread out to other places in the Philippines, such as Siquijor, Bohol, Negros Oriental, southwestern Leyte, western Samar, Masbate, and large parts of Mindanao. 1941 Philippine Senate Elections
Election to the Senate were held on November 11, 1941 in the Philippines. The Senate was re-instituted after amendments to the constitution restored the bicameral legislature last used in 1935. The elected senators would start to serve only in 1945 as they were not able to take office on December 30, 1941 as Imperial Japan invaded the country on December 8, 1941 at the onset of World War II. Electoral system The electorate voted with plurality-at-large voting for the first time for the Senate; the voters have the option of writing the party name on the ballot and all 24 candidates from the party receive votes; another option is by voting individually for each candidate. Misamis Occidental's at-large congressional district is an obsolete congressional district of the Philippines that encompassed the entire province of Misamis Occidental. It was created ahead of the 1931 Philippine House of Representatives elections following the 1929 division of Misamis into two provinces. The district elected one member to the final two meetings of the Philippine Assembly from 1931 to 1935 and to the Commonwealth National Assembly from 1935 to 1941. Two members represented the district in the Second Republic National Assembly from 1943 to 1944. Bukidnon's at-large congressional district refers to the lone congressional district of the Philippines in the province of Bukidnon. It existed between 1935 and 1986 as either a single or plural member constituency for several national legislatures. Bukidnon was first created as a subprovince of Agusan in 1907 from the territory of the Buquidnones that was previously unorganized spanning the Spanish politico-military districts of Misamis and Cotabato. It was admitted as a special province in 1914 under the direct control and jurisdiction of the Department of Mindanao and Sulu whose representatives to the national legislature were appointed by the Governor General as one at-large district beginning with the 4th Philippine Legislature in 1916.
