José Moreira (athlete)
José Filipe da Silva Moreira (born 20 March 1982) is a Portuguese former professional footballer who played as a goalkeeper. He spent most of his career with Benfica, appearing in 148 competitive matches and making his Primeira Liga debut at 19. He also competed in Wales and Cyprus. Moreira earned 79 caps for Portugal across all youth levels, and was part of the senior team squad at Euro 2004. Club career Early years Born in Massarelos, Porto, Moreira preferred to play as an attacking midfielder in his early years but, following the advice of his father José, soon changed his position and took trials for S.C. Salgueiros. In 1997, aged 15, Moreira caught the eye of the biggest Portuguese teams — Sporting CP, FC Porto, Boavista F.C. and S.L. Benfica. 2004 UEFA European Under-21 Championship
The 2004 UEFA European Under-21 Championship was the 14th staging of UEFA's European Under-21 Championship. The final tournament was hosted by Germany between 27 May and 8 June 2004. Italy U-21s won the competition for the fifth time. Italy's Alberto Gilardino won the Golden Player award. The top three teams in this competition qualified for Athens 2004 Olympics, along with hosts Greece U21s. The Big Three ( pt, Os Três Grandes) is the nickname of the three most successful and biggest football clubs in Portugal. The teams of S.L. Benfica and Sporting CP, both from Lisbon, and of FC Porto, from Porto, have a great rivalry and are usually the main contenders for the Primeira Liga title. They share all but two of the Portuguese Football Championships ever played, and generally end up sharing the top three positions. None of them have been relegated from the Primeira Liga either, having been participants in all editions since its first season in 1934–35.
