Joshua Simon
Joshua Simon (born 1979, Tel Aviv), is a curator, writer, publisher, cultural critic, poet, filmmaker and public intellectual. He currently lives in Philadelphia, PA. Simon curated exhibitions in museums and art spaces in Tel Aviv-Yafo, NYC, Melbourne, London, Zürich, Vienna, Berlin, and Amsterdam, among other places. Simon is former director and chief curator aMoBY-Museums of Bat Yam, Israel(2012- 2017), which made him the youngest museum director in the history of the country. Co-founding editor of the Tel Aviv-Yafo based Maayan publishing together with Roy Chicky Arad. His writing has been taught among other places at the Royal College of Art London, UK, Northwestern University Chicago, US, and the Oslo National Academy of the Arts Norway. Maayan (magazine)
''Maayan'' (in he, מעין) is an Israeli magazine for poetry, literature, art, and ideas. Its first issue appeared in 2005 and was named for Maayan Strauss. History ''Maayan'' is edited by Roy Arad and Joshua Simon. The magazine is a forum for poetry and art from Israel (Jewish and Arab) and beyond. From the opening statement of issue #1: "In its journey to the shelves, ''Maayan''s poetic proposal entails a risk: according to preconceived standards, it is not clear if it qualifies as poetry at all. ''Maayan''s poets write, like a child riding a tricycle through heavy traffic ..." The second issue of ''Maayan'' was released in December 2005, and was twice as big. Irit Rogoff
Irit Rogoff is a writer, theorist, teacher and curator. Her research interests include visual culture; contemporary art and critical theory; postcolonialism, geoculture, and geographies, cultures of education and gender. Rogoff obtained her PhD degree from the Courtald Institute of Art in 1987. She was born in Jerusalem, Palestine and immigrated to London for her studies in the 1970’s. Teaching Between 1989 and 1997 Rogoff taught at UC Davis, where she merged the graduate programs in Art and Critical Theory under the department of Visual Culture. In 2002, she founded the trans-disciplinary department of Visual Cultures at Goldsmiths, University of London where she is a Professor of Visual Cultures, heading the PhD in Curatorial/Knowledge program. ''Modern Painters'' is a monthly art magazine. It was launched as a quarterly in the United Kingdom in 1987, and is now published in New York City by Louise Blouin Media. History The magazine was launched in England in 1987 by the art critic Peter Fuller, who was editor until his death in a car accident in 1990. It was at first a quarterly; the first issue appeared in Spring 1988. ''Domus'' is an architecture and design magazine founded in 1928 by architect Gio Ponti and Barnabite father Giovanni Semeria. Afterall is a nonprofit contemporary art research and publishing organisation. It is based in London, at Central St Martins College of Art & Design. It publishes the journal ''Afterall;'' the book series ''Readers,'' ''One Works'' and ''Exhibition Histories.'' Frieze (magazine)
''frieze'' is a contemporary art magazine, published eight times a year from London. History ''frieze'' was founded in 1991 by Frieze Art Fair founders Amanda Sharp and Matthew Slotover with artist Tom Gidley. A Damien Hirst butterfly painting was featured in the first ''frieze'' issue. When ''frieze'' began both Sharp and Slotover served as editors, but ceased direct involvement in editorial decisions in 2001. Yair Garbuz
Yair Garbuz ( he, יאיר גרבוז, born 29 September 1945) is an Israeli artist. He was director of the HaMidrasha Art School at Beit Berl College for 12 years. He is also known in Israel as an author and as a humorist. Biography Yair Garbuz was born in Givatayim, Mandatory Palestine. Yael Bartana
Yael Bartana ( he, יעל ברתנא; born 1970) is an Israeli artist, filmmaker and photographer, whose past works have encompassed multiple mediums, including photography, film, video, sound, and installation. Many of her pieces feature political or feminist themes. Bartana's works have been exhibited around the world and been part of collections at museums such as the Museum of Modern Art in New York City, the Tate Modern in London, and the Centre Pompidou in Paris. Harun Farocki
Harun Farocki (9 January 1944 – 30 July 2014) was a German filmmaker, author, and lecturer in film. Moshe Gershuni
Moshe Gershuni (11 September 1936 – 22 January 2017) was an Israelis, Israeli painter and sculptor. In his works, particularly in his paintings from the 1980s, he expressed a position different from the norm, commemorating The Holocaust in Israeli art. In addition, he created in his works a connection between bereavement and homoerotic sexuality, in the way he criticized society and Israeli Zionism-nationalism. He was awarded the Israel Prize for Painting for his work in 2003, but in the end it was revoked and he was deprived of receiving the prize.
