Joseph Pamplany
Mar Joseph Pamplany is the Metropolitan Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Tellicherry. He was elected by the synod of the Syro-Malabar Catholic Church as the successor of Mar George Njaralakatt on 15 January 2022 while servicing as the Auxiliary Bishop of Tellicherry. Mar Joseph Pamplany was born on 3 December 1969 at Charal, Kannur. He has obtained Ph.D. in Sacred Scripture from Belgium, and he is a well-known writer and versatile orator and has published more than 30 books and over 300 articles. Pamplany is the founder of Alpha Institute, Thalassery. Mar (title)
Mar ( syc, ܡܪܝ ', written with a silent final yodh; ), also Mor in Western Syriac, is an Aramaic word meaning "lord". The corresponding feminine forms in Syriac are ''Morth'' and ''Marth'' for "lady" (, '). It is a title of reverence in Syriac Christianity, where the title is placed before the Christian name, as in Mar Aprem / Mor Afrem for Ephrem the Syrian, and Marth / Morth Maryam for St Mary. It is given to all saints and is also used in instead of "Most Reverend", just before the name in religion taken by bishops. Mar George Valiamattam (born 16 September 1938) is an East Syriac Catholic Archbishop Emeritus. He was born at Punnathura, Kottayam, Kerala, India. Synod
A synod () is a council of a Christian denomination, usually convened to decide an issue of doctrine, administration or application. Syro-Malabar Catholic Archeparchy Of Tellicherry
The Syro-Malabar Catholic Archeparchy of Thalassery (anglicised - Tellicherry) is an archeparchy of the Syro-Malabar Church in communion with the See of Rome. The boundaries of the Thalassery ecclesiastical province were extended to include Mangalore, Chickmangalore, Mysore, Shimoga and Ootty as there were settlers in the neighbouring States. The diocese covers an area of 18,000 km² and a Catholic population of 273,826. Since 2022, Joseph Pamplany is the Metropolitan Archbishop. The ecclesiastical province came into existence on 31 December 1953 through the Papal bull ''Ad Christi Ecclesiam Regendam'' issued by Pope Pius XII. The boundaries of the new diocese were the same as those of the Latin Diocese of Calicut. Archbishop
In Christian denominations, an archbishop is a bishop of higher rank or office.
