Joseph Campbell Foundation
The Joseph Campbell Foundation is a US not-for-profit organization dedicated to preserve, protect and perpetuate the work of influential American mythologist Joseph Campbell (1904–1987). It fosters academic and popular discussion in the fields of comparative mythology and religion, psychology and culture through its publishing program, events, local groups (Mythological RoundTable groups) and its website. Robert Walter (editor)
Robert Walter is an editor and an executive with several not-for-profit organizations. Most notably, he is the executive director and board president of the Joseph Campbell Foundation (JCF), an organization that he helped found in 1990 with choreographer Jean Erdman, Joseph Campbell's widow. In 1979, Walter was an editor with Alfred van der Marck Editions. He began to work on several projects with Campbell, who subsequently named him editorial director of his ''Historical Atlas of World Mythology''. Following Campbell's death in 1987, Walter served as literary executor of Campbell's estate, completing Volumes I and II of the ''Atlas'' and supervising its posthumous publication. Jean Erdman
Jean Erdman (February 20, 1916 – May 4, 2020) was an American dancer and choreographer of modern dance as well as an avant-garde theater director. Biography Early years and background Erdman was born in Honolulu. Erdman's father, John Piney Erdman, a doctor of divinity and missionary from New England, settled in Honolulu as a minister at the non-denominational Protestant Church of the Crossroads where he preached, in both English and Japanese, to a multi-ethnic congregation. Her mother, Marion Dillingham Erdman, was a member of one of the founding industrialist families of Hawaii. Erdman's earliest dance experience was the hula. She attended the Punahou School in Honolulu where she learned, as a form of physical education, Isadora Duncan interpretive dance. David Kudler
David Kudler (born 1962) is an American editor and author. He is best known for editing numerous posthumous editions of the books by Joseph Campbell, including '' Pathways to Bliss'' and the 2008 edition of ''The Hero with a Thousand Faces''. For the Joseph Campbell Foundation, he served as the managing editor of the ''Collected Works of Joseph Campbell'' series for over twenty years. In 2012, he started Stillpoint Digital Press, producing print, ebook and audiobook editions. He has contribute to ''Huffington Post'', ''Medium,'' and a number of other websites, writing mostly about books and publishing. Mythology
Myth is a folklore genre consisting of narratives that play a fundamental role in a society, such as foundational tales or origin myths. Since "myth" is widely used to imply that a story is not objectively true, the identification of a narrative as a myth can be highly controversial. Many adherents of religions view their own religions' stories as truth and so object to their characterization as myth, the way they see the stories of other religions. Joseph Campbell
Joseph John Campbell (March 26, 1904 – October 30, 1987) was an American writer. He was a professor of literature at Sarah Lawrence College who worked in comparative mythology and comparative religion. His work covers many aspects of the human experience. Campbell's best-known work is his book ''The Hero with a Thousand Faces'' (1949), in which he discusses his theory of the journey of the archetypal hero shared by world mythologies, termed the monomyth. Since the publication of ''The Hero with a Thousand Faces'', Campbell's theories have been applied by a wide variety of modern writers and artists.
