Josep Lluís Pellicer
Josep Lluís Pellicer i Fenyé (12 May 1842 – 15 June 1901) was a Spanish painter, illustrator and cartoonist. Biography He was born in Barcelona, and originally studied to be a surveyor, but switched to studying art with Ramón Martí Alsina, who later became his father-in-law. Eduardo Sáenz Hermúa
Eduardo Sáenz Hermúa (1859–1898), artistically known as Mecachis, was a Spanish cartoonist, illustrator, and playwright. He also signed works as Augusto Marnaz. Biography Born in 1859 in Madrid, he studied Medicine at the , but he dropped out in 1879 and trained instead at the Escuela Superior de Pintura under Federico Madrazo and Luis Rivera. He worked in publications such as ''La Broma'', ''Madrid Cómico'', ''La Caricatura'' (which he founded in 1884 together with José Gil y Campos), ''La Correspondencia de España'', and ''Blanco y Negro (magazine), Blanco y Negro''. 1888 Barcelona Universal Exposition
The 1888 Barcelona Universal Exposition (in Catalan: ''Exposició Universal de Barcelona'' and ''Exposición Universal de Barcelona'' in Spanish) was Spain's first International World's Fair and ran from 8 April to 9 December 1888. It was also the first of the two held in Barcelona (the second one being in 1929). Summary Eugenio Serrano de Casanova (journalist, writer and entrepreneur) tried to launch an exposition in 1886, and when that failed, the Mayor of Barcelona, Francesc Rius i Taulet, took over the planning of the project. The fair was hosted on the reconstructed site of the city's main public park, the Parc de la Ciutadella, with Vilaseca's Arc de Triomf forming the entrance. More than 2 million people from Spain, the rest of Europe, and other international points of embarkation visited the exhibition, which made the equivalent of 1,737,000 United States dollars. Benito Pérez Galdós (May 10, 1843 – January 4, 1920) was a Spanish Spanish Realist literature, realist novelist. He was the leading literary figure in 19th-century Spain, and some scholars consider him second only to Miguel de Cervantes in stature as a Spanish novelist. The ''Episodios Nacionales'' (''National Episodes'') are a collection of forty-six historical novels written by Benito Pérez Galdós between 1872 and 1912. They are divided into five series and they deal with Spanish history from roughly 1805 to 1880. They are fictional accounts which add characters invented by the author within historical events. José Zorrilla
José Zorrilla y Moral () was a Spanish poet and dramatist, who became National Laureate. Biography Zorrilla was born in Valladolid to a magistrate in whom Ferdinand VII placed special confidence. He was educated by the Jesuits at the Real Seminario de Nobles in Madrid, wrote verses when he was twelve, became an enthusiastic admirer of Walter Scott and Chateaubriand, and took part in the school performances of plays by Lope de Vega and Calderón de la Barca. In 1833, he was sent to study law at the university of Toledo, but after a year of idleness, he fled to Madrid, where he horrified the friends of his absolutist father by making violent speeches and by founding a newspaper which was promptly suppressed by the government. He narrowly escaped transportation to the Philippines, and passed the next few years in poverty. The death of the satirist Mariano José de Larra brought Zorrilla into notice.
