Josef Rief
Josef Rief (born 13 April 1960) is a German politician of the Christian Democratic Union of Germany, Christian Democratic Union (CDU) who has been serving as a member of the Bundestag from the state of Baden-Württemberg since 2009. Political career Rief became a member of the Bundestag in the 2009 German federal election. He is a member of the Budget Committee and the Committee for Family, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth. In this capacity, he serves as his parliamentary group's rapporteur on the Federal budget of Germany, annual budget of the Federal Ministry of Health (Germany), Federal Ministry of Health. In addition to his committee assignments, Rief has been a substitute member of the German delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) since 2018. Bundestag
The Bundestag (, "Federal Diet") is the German federal parliament. It is the only federal representative body that is directly elected by the German people. It is comparable to the United States House of Representatives or the House of Commons of the United Kingdom. The Bundestag was established by Title III of the Basic Law for the Federal Republic of Germany (, ) in 1949 as one of the legislative bodies of Germany and thus it is the historical successor to the earlier Reichstag. The European Social Charter is a Council of Europe treaty which was opened for signature on October 18, 1961 and initially became effective on February 26, 1965, after West Germany had become the fifth of the 13 signing nations to ratify it. Same-sex marriage in Germany has been legal since 1 October 2017. A bill for the legalisation of same-sex marriage passed the Bundestag on 30 June 2017 and the Bundesrat on 7 July.
