Jose Estella

	Jose Estella Jose Estella (1870 - 6 April 1943) was a Filipino composer and conductor who was known for his title as the "''Philippine Waltz King".'' Besides composing waltzes, he also became one of the major contributors of localizing Spanish zarzuelas from 1890s to 1900s. Biography Born in 1870, Jose Estella studied at the Madrid Conservatory and after graduating, returned to the Philippines to pursue a career in music. In Manila and Cebu, he conducted several orchestras and was director of the Rizal Orchestra, founded in 1898. Estella also became involved with a plagiarism case in 1939 with Francisco Santiago over which Estella complains that Santiago copied his Campanadas de Gloria but in the end of the investigation, it was revealed that they both get inspiration from the same folk song named "Leron Leron Sinta". Life Santiago was born in Santa Maria, Bulacan, Philippines, to musically minded peasant parents, Felipe Santiago and Maria Santiago. In 1908, his first composition, ''Purita'', was dedicated to the first Carnival Queen, Pura Villanueva, who later married the distinguished scholar Teodoro Kalaw. 	Ramon Estella Ramon A. Estella (13 August 1911 – 4 May 1991), son of Filipino composer Jose Estella, was a pre-war Philippines movie director and actor. At the age of 27 years old, he started directing his first film, "Bayan at Pagibig,” in 1938 and in 1941, he was proclaimed Director of the Year by Philippine Cinema and Radio because of the success of his assigned project, "Buenavista". During the 1950s, Estella started his career as a neo-realist painter which later in 1959, had his first solo exhibition at the Philippine Art Gallery. He spent his entire life in Florida with his Japanese wife and his last recorded visit to the country was during the Manila International Film Festival in 1981. 	Severino Reyes Severino Reyes y Rivera (February 11, 1861 – September 15, 1942) was a Filipino writer, playwright, and director of plays. He used the pen name Lola Basyang. He was nicknamed "Don Binoy". Early life and education Severino Reyes was born on February 11, 1861 in Santa Cruz, Manila during the Spanish colonial era to Rufino Reyes and Andrea Rivera. He pursued his early education in an institution owned by Catalino Sanchez and acquired a bachelor's degree at the Escuela de Segunda Enseñanza of the Colegio de San Juan de Letran. He also attended the University of Santo Tomas to pursue a degree in Philosophy. Career Reyes wrote 26 zarzuelas and 22 dramas in his career. He is known as the "Father of Tagalog Plays" and as the "Father of the Tagalog Zarzuela". 	Zorrilla Theatre The Zorrilla Theatre or Teatro Zorrilla, also known as the ''Duláang Zorrilla sa Maynila'' ("Zorrilla Theater in Manila") in Tagalog, was a prominent theater in the Philippines. Once located along Calle Iris (now a part of C.M. Recto Avenue), Manila, the theater was named after José Zorrilla (1817–1893), a Spanish poet and playwright.
