Jorge Luis Sicre-Gattorno
Jorge Luis Sicre-Gattorno (born 1958 in Havana, Cuba) is a Cuban-American painter. Education Sicre is a graduate of the University of California in Santa Barbara, United States. His art work is in museum collections at the Housatonic Museum of Art in Bridgeport, Connecticut, the Museum of Modern Latin American Art in Washington, D.C., and in the Bass Museum in Miami Beach, Florida. Family Jorge Sicre-Gattorno is the grandson of Cuban sculptor Juan José Sicre and the relative of Cuba's premier Vangardia painter, Antonio Gattorno. His father, Jorge Sicre, was a cellist in the Cleveland Orchestra and then taught at the Juilliard School. His mother, Candita Gattorno, was a psychiatrist. He grew up in Cleveland, Ohio. ''Modern Painters'' (1843–1860) is a five-volume work by the Victorian art critic, John Ruskin, begun when he was 24 years old based on material collected in Switzerland in 1842. Ruskin argues that recent painters emerging from the tradition of the picturesque are superior in the art of landscape to the old masters. The book was primarily written as a defense of the later work of J. M. W. Turner. Ruskin used the book to argue that art should devote itself to the accurate documentation of nature. Francisco Alejandro Gattorno Sánchez (; born October 12, 1964), better known in the show business world plainly as Francisco Gattorno, is a Cuban-Mexican actor. Biography Francisco grew up in Santa Clara. He is a son of a Canarian father, and mother whose grandparents descended from the French colonial population of Saint Domingue. He became interested in acting and directing as a young man. As a child, Gattorno became very fond of Cuban customs, such as Cuban music and sports. José Gómez-Sicre
José Gómez-Sicre (July 6, 1916 in Matanzas, Cuba – July 22, 1991 in Washington, D.C.) was a noted Cuban lawyer, art critic and writer. Education Gómez-Sicre graduated from the University of Havana in 1941 with degrees in Consular Law and Politics, and later took courses in art history at New York University and Columbia University. Although he was a lawyer by trade, his professional career was spent working promoting Latin American artists and their art for 50 years. Gómez-Sicre was a critic, researcher and writer, publishing numerous reports and articles on Latin American artists. Most importantly, Gómez-Sicre provided Latin American artists with an introduction to the audience in the United States and the world.
