SC Eendracht Aalst
SC Eendracht Aalst is a Belgian football club based in Aalst, East Flanders. History During World War I, citizens from Aalst played football matches to raise money for prisoners of war. In 1919 Sport-Club Eendracht Aalst became an official football team. After some friendly games in 1923, SC Eendracht Aalst joined the regional competition. They quickly moved their way up through the regional divisions and after moving the stadium to the current location in 1928, the team made it into the national competition in 1932. Only seven years later, in 1939, Aalst were promoted to the Eredivisie (the current Belgian Pro League). Due to the second World War competition was not played for two years, so it wasn't until 1942 Aalst finished its first season in the Eredivisie. In 1946 the chairman died and it was decided to rename the stadium to honour him, from then on it was called the Pierre Cornelis Stadium. The Belgian Cup (french: link=no, Coupe de Belgique; nl, Beker van België []; german: link=no, Belgischer Fußballpokal) is the main Single-elimination tournament, knockout association football, football competition in Belgium, run by the Belgian Football Association, Royal Belgian FA. The competition started in 1908 with provincial selections as the "Belgian Provinces Cup". Starting from 1912 only actual clubs were allowed to partake. As of 1964, the Belgian Cup has been organised annually. Since the 2015–16 edition, the Belgian Cup is called the Croky Cup, for sponsorship purposes. The final traditionally takes place at the Heysel Stadium in Brussels. The most successful cup club is Club Bruges with 11 Belgian cups in their possession. The 2014 Belgian Cup Final, named Cofidis Cup after the sponsor, was the 59th Belgian Cup final and took place on 22 March 2014 between Lokeren and Zulte Waregem. It was won by Lokeren with the only goal coming from Alexander Scholz. For Lokeren it was their second cup win in three years. Route to the final Match Summary Zulte Waregem had the best opportunities in a closed first half. Both Idrissa Sylla and Mbaye Leye saw their shot hit the post, while Lokeren only had one decent chance, the header of Nill De Pauw going wide. In the second half, the goal by Jens Naessens was correctly disallowed for offside. With just under an hour played, Alexander Scholz headed the ball into the top corner of the goal, which would remain the only goal of the game as Zulte Waregem did not manage to break through the Lokeren defence in the last half-hour, even though they saw most of the ball.
