Jordi Sans
Jordi "Chiqui" Sans Juan (born August 3, 1965 in Barcelona, Catalonia) is a former water polo player from Spain, who was a member of the national team that won the gold medal at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, United States. Four years earlier, when his home town of Barcelona hosted the Games, he was on the side that captured the silver medal. Sans played in five consecutive Summer Olympics for his native country from 1984 to 2000. He is, jointly with Greek Georgios Mavrotas, the fifth athlete to compete in water polo at five Olympics, after Briton Paul Radmilovic, Hungarian Dezső Gyarmati, Italian Gianni De Magistris, and fellow Spaniard Manuel Estiarte. He is also, jointly with fencer Antonio García and shooter Jorge González, the seventh Spaniard to compete at five Olympics, after shooter Eladio Vallduvi, equestrian Luis Álvarez de Cervera, shooter Juan Seguí, water polo player Manuel Estiarte, hurdler Carlos Sala, and sailor José Luis Doreste. Water Polo At The 2000 Summer Olympics
The water polo competition at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia saw Hungary’s return to the gold medal platform and the introduction of the women’s tournament. The Australian women had lobbied the IOC hard for the inclusion of women’s water polo in the Olympics, including showing up at the airport dressed only in their swimsuits during one pre-Olympic visit by members of the IOC. Six nations competed in the women’s tournament with home team Australia winning the gold medal over the United States. Twelve nations competed in the men’s tournament and played a total of 48 matches. Spain was unable to follow up their 1996 gold medal performance with a medal. Hungary defeated Russia for the gold medal. The matches were held at Ryde Aquatic Leisure Centre and the Sydney Olympic Aquatic Centre. José Luis Doreste
José Luis Doreste Blanco (born 19 September 1956) is a Spanish sailor and Olympic champion. He was born in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Las Palmas. He competed at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, where he won a gold medal in the Finn class. In 1998–99, he was a crewmember on Fortuna Extra Lights in the Whitbread Round the World Yacht Race. Luis Álvarez de Cervera (born 23 July 1947 in Madrid) is a Spanish equestrian who competed at six Olympic Games between 1972 and 1996. Manel Estiarte Duocastella (born October 26, 1961 in Manresa) is a Spanish former water polo player born in Manresa, a municipality in Barcelona, Spain. He is currently a member of Pep Guardiola's technical staff at Manchester City FC. He is usually considered one of the two greatest water poloists of all time. Dezső Gyarmati (23 October 1927 – 18 August 2013) was a Hungarian water polo player and three-time Olympic champion; he later became the coach of the Hungarian national water polo team.
