Joop Voorn
Joop Voorn ( 16 October 1932, in The Hague – 11 July 2021, in Tilburg) was a Dutch composer. Biography Joop Voorn sang in the parish boys' choir "Ex ore infantium": Gregorian chant, Perosi, but also Palestrina, Bruckner and Jan Mul. He took piano lessons and studied piano, organ and harmony from 1946 to 1951 with Jean Claessens in Weert. From 1952 to 1966 he studied philosophy and theology, including in Rome, where he also took counterpoint lessons with Edgardo Carducci at the Istituto Pontificio di Musica Sacra. He also worked as a lecturer in theology. In 1966 he did a master's degree in dogmatic theology in Nijmegen with Edward Schillebeeckx, cum laude, with a thesis on "Law and Gospel" in Helmut Thielicke's Theological Ethik I. From 1966 he studied at the Brabant Conservatory in Tilburg: composition and theory with Jan van Dijk, and piano with Polo de Haas. In 1969 he obtained a diploma in the theory of music. Tilburg () is a city and municipality in the Netherlands, in the southern province of North Brabant. A composer is a person who writes music. The term is especially used to indicate composers of Western classical music, or those who are composers by occupation. Edward Schillebeeckx
Edward Cornelis Florentius Alfonsus Schillebeeckx (November 12, 1914–December 23, 2009) was a Belgian Catholic theologian born in Antwerp. He taught at the Catholic University in Nijmegen. He was a member of the Dominican Order. His books on theology have been translated into many languages, and his contributions to the Second Vatican Council made him known throughout the world. Early life and ordination He was born in Antwerp on 12 November 1914, the sixth of 14 children in a middle-class family. After being educated by the Jesuits at Turnhout, Schillebeeckx entered the Dominican Order in 1934. He studied theology and philosophy at the Catholic University of Leuven. In 1941 he was ordained to the priesthood. Helmut Thielicke
Helmut Thielicke (; 4 December 1908 in Wuppertal – 5 March 1986 in Hamburg) was a German Protestant theologian and rector of the University of Hamburg from 1960 to 1978. Biography Thielicke grew up in Wuppertal, where he went to a humanistic Gymnasium and took his Abitur in 1928. After this he began to study philosophy and theology in Erlangen, but soon had to undergo an operation on his thyroid. Despite the negative outcome of this operation (pulmonary embolism, tetanus), which were still causing complications 4 years later, he finished his studies and in 1932 he got his doctorate in philosophy with ''"Das Verhältnis zwischen dem Ethischen und dem Ästethischen"'' (''The relationship between the ethical and the aesthetic'').
