Jonathan Sharp (musician)
Jonathan Sharp is an electronic body music / industrial musician and professional sound designer from Cumbria, England, who has released music under the names New Mind, Bio-Tek, The Heartwood Institute, and others. He was also a member of the bands Cyber-Tec Project, Hexedene, and Hyperdex-1-Sect. Career Early life As a child Jonathan was a classically-trained musician, having played piano and violin. As a teenager taught himself to play guitar and his interests began drifting from classical music towards experimental guitar oriented music in the vein of Swans, as well as early industrial and electronic music including Neu! and Helden. Drawing on a fascination with the work of the BBC Radiophonic Workshop, Jonathan eventually acquired a Roland synthesizer in order to make sounds of his own. Cumbria
Cumbria ( ) is a ceremonial and non-metropolitan county in North West England, bordering Scotland. BBC Radiophonic Workshop
The BBC Radiophonic Workshop was one of the sound effects units of the BBC, created in 1958 to produce incidental sounds and new music for radio and, later, television. The unit is known for its experimental and pioneering work in electronic music and music technology, as well as its popular scores for programmes such as ''Doctor Who'' and '' Quatermass and the Pit'' during the 1950s and 1960s. The original Radiophonic Workshop was based in the BBC's Maida Vale Studios in Delaware Road, Maida Vale, London. The Workshop was closed in March 1998, although much of its traditional work had already been outsourced by 1995. Attrition (band)
Attrition are an English electronic music band, formed in Coventry in 1980 by Martin Bowes and Julia Niblock. The band emerged from the experimental post-punk scene of the early 1980s and, along with other groups such as Throbbing Gristle, Coil, Einstürzende Neubauten, and In the Nursery, greatly contributed to the development of industrial music in the UK. History Beginnings In 1979, Martin started a xeroxed fanzine called ''Alternative Sounds'' to document the Coventry music scene (including such notables as The Specials and Furious Apples). Gothic Rock
Gothic rock (also called goth rock or simply goth) is a style of rock music that emerged from post-punk in the United Kingdom in the late 1970s. The first post-punk bands which shifted toward dark music with gothic overtones include Siouxsie and the Banshees, Joy Division, Bauhaus, and the Cure. The genre itself was defined as a separate movement from post-punk. Gothic rock stood out due to its darker sound, with the use of primarily minor or bass chords, reverb, dark arrangements, or dramatic and melancholic melodies, having inspirations in gothic literature allied with themes such as sadness, nihilism, dark romanticism, tragedy, melancholy and morbidity. Techno
Techno is a genre of electronic dance music (EDM) which is generally produced for use in a continuous DJ set, with tempo often varying between 120 and 150 beats per minute (bpm). The central rhythm is typically in common time (4/4) and often characterized by a repetitive four on the floor beat. Artists may use electronic instruments such as drum machines, sequencers, and synthesizers, as well as digital audio workstations. Marc Heal
Marc Heal is an English musician, television producer and writer. He is best known as an industrial music artist of the 1990s, noted for mixing metal and techno with more traditional industrial sounds. His extroverted onstage behaviour was unusual in the generally downbeat industrial genre. His most influential project was Cubanate, founded 1992 with Graham Rayner, Phil Barry and Steve Etheridge. Cubanate produced four studio albums. Their final album release, ''Interference'', came out in 1998. They reformed in 2010, and released a re-mastered greatest hits album, ''Brutalism'', in 2017. Crisis n.T.i. was the music project of United Kingdom-based composer Ged Denton, known for his work in The Cyber-Tec Project. Under the moniker Denton released the album '' The Alien Conspiracy'' for Fifth Colvmn Records in 1995. History Crisis n.T.i. was founded in 1995 out of Cumbria as a solo outlet for composer Ged Denton's compositions. That year Genton released '' The Alien Conspiracy'' on Fifth Colvmn Records. Jean-Luc De Meyer
Jean-Luc De Meyer (born 1957 in Brussels) is a vocalist and lyricist who is best known as the lead vocalist of the Belgian EBM group Front 242. He started singing in the experimental group "Under Viewer" with Patrick Codenys. Both joined Front 242 early in their history and de Meyer's distinctive growl became part of the group's trademark sound as their reputation grew during the late 1980s. By the early 1990s the Front 242 formula seemed to be tiring and there were growing musical differences within the group. In 1994 the band went on hiatus while de Meyer and other members started to focus on side projects. The most prominent of these was Cyber-Tec Project - later known as C-Tec.
