Jonas Smulders (born 1994 in Amsterdam) is a Dutch actor. He made his acting debut at 16. In 2015, he won a Golden Calf for his role in the short film ''Geen koningen in ons bloed'' from the television series ''One Night Stand''. He was named one of the "Shooting Stars" at the Berlin Film Festival in 2018. The Golden Calf ( nl, Gouden Kalf) is the award of the Netherlands Film Festival, which is held annually in Utrecht. The award has been presented since 1981, originally in six categories: Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Feature Film, Best Short Film, Culture Prize and Honourable mention. '' One Night Stand '' is a Dutch anthology series that ran from 2004 till 2019 and was broadcast by the VPRO. Every episode was produced by a different production company and directed by a different director. ''The East'' ( nl, De Oost) is a 2020 Dutch war film directed by . Plot The film is set in the Dutch East Indies of 1946 during the Indonesian National Revolution. Twenty-year-old soldier Johan de Vries from Arcen is sent to Semarang, where the Dutch army says it is to liberate the Indonesian people from the authority of Sukarno. Johan believes in the promise to help the population, but soon discovers that the reality is different: he notices that the population is hostile to the Dutch army and that his colleagues in turn hardly act against war crimes. For example, the army takes no action when the chiefs of a nearby village are found beheaded.
