Jon Switalski
Jon Switalski is a former Democratic politician from the U.S. state of Michigan. He was a member of the Michigan State House of Representatives, representing the 25th District which covers parts of Warren and Sterling Heights. Switalski was elected to his second term in the State House in 2010. He had previously served two terms as the Macomb County Commissioner and worked as an aide to former U.S. Congressman David Bonior and was an advocate for health workers for the Service Employees International Union. Switalski is currently the Director of External Affairs for River LA, a nonprofit working on the revitalization of the Los Angeles River. Macomb County
Macomb County ( ) is a county located in the eastern portion of the U.S. state of Michigan, bordering Lake St. Clair, and is part of northern Metro Detroit. As of the 2020 Census, the population was 881,217, making it the third-most populous county in the state. The county seat is Mt. Clemens. Macomb County is part of the Detroit-Warren-Dearborn, MI Metropolitan Statistical Area. The city of Detroit is located south of the county's southern border. Grand Valley State University
Grand Valley State University (GVSU, GV, or Grand Valley) is a public university in Allendale, Michigan. It was established in 1960 as Grand Valley State College. Its main campus is situated on approximately west of Grand Rapids. The university also features campuses in Grand Rapids and Holland and regional centers in Battle Creek, Detroit, Muskegon, and Traverse City. GVSU enrolls more than 24,000 students as of fall 2021 from all 83 Michigan counties and dozens of other states and foreign countries. River LA
River LA is a nonprofit working on the revitalization of the Los Angeles River. The organization, formerly known as the Los Angeles River Revitalization Corporation, was founded in 2009 by the City of LA to coordinate river policy as part of the Los Angeles River Revitalization Master Plan. River LA has garnered attention for their work with Frank Gehry; their work on the La Kretz Crossing, the first multi-modal cable-stayed bridge of its kind; and their Greenway 2020, a project to create a continuous 51 mile greenway and bike path. In the fall of 2020 they launched Rio Reveals, a multi-year campaign of immersive experiences along the L.A. River, engaging more than 40 artists and the community to benefit the river. David Bonior
David Edward Bonior (born June 6, 1945) is an American politician from the U.S. state of Michigan. First elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1976, Bonior served as Democratic whip in the House from 1991 to 2002, during which time Democrats were in both the majority (1991–1995) and minority (1995–2002), making Bonior the third and second highest-ranking Democrat in the House, respectively. During his tenure in office, Bonior was the public face of Democratic opposition to the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), and was known for his tenacity in opposing Republican Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich, against whom Bonior filed more than seventy-five ethics charges. Sterling Heights, Michigan
Sterling Heights is a city in Macomb County of the U.S. state of Michigan, and one of Detroit's core suburbs. As of the 2020 Census, the city had a total population of 134,346. It is the second largest suburb in Metro Detroit, and the fourth largest city in Michigan.
