Silver Ginger 5 was originally formed in 1999 as a solo project for Ginger, lead singer-songwriter of The Wildhearts. The band was not formed until ''after'' the recording of the album '' Black Leather Mojo'', and despite the name only ever had 4 members. The name itself, according to Ginger, came from his trying to reassure himself in an uncertain time of his life; as he considered silver his lucky colour, and five his lucky number, he figured surrounding himself with luck would be a good move. Alternative TV
Alternative TV (sometimes known as ATV) are an English band formed in London in 1977. Author Steve Taylor writes: "Alternative TV pioneered reggae rhythms in punk and then moved on to redefine the musical rules". History Alternative TV were formed by Mark Perry, the founding editor of ''Sniffin' Glue'', a punk fanzine, with Alex Fergusson. The name is a play on the name of Associated Television, a British broadcaster also known as ATV. Early rehearsals took place at Throbbing Gristle's Industrial Records studio with Genesis P-Orridge on drums (recordings from this period appeared, long afterwards, on the ''Industrial Sessions'' CD). The band's first live appearance was in Nottingham supporting The Adverts. The band's debut on record was "Love Lies Limp", a free flexi disc issued with the final edition of Perry's ''Sniffin' Glue'' fanzine. For their first two singles Perry and Fergusson were accompanied by drummer John Towe (ex-Generation X) and Tyrone Thomas on bass; Towe late ...

Cardiac Arrest E
The heart is a muscular organ in most animals. This organ pumps blood through the blood vessels of the circulatory system. The pumped blood carries oxygen and nutrients to the body, while carrying metabolic waste such as carbon dioxide to the lungs. In humans, the heart is approximately the size of a closed fist and is located between the lungs, in the middle compartment of the chest. In humans, other mammals, and birds, the heart is divided into four chambers: upper left and right atria and lower left and right ventricles. Commonly the right atrium and ventricle are referred together as the right heart and their left counterparts as the left heart. Fish, in contrast, have two chambers, an atrium and a ventricle, while most reptiles have three chambers. In a healthy heart blood flows one way through the heart due to heart valves, which prevent backflow. The heart is enclosed in a protective sac, the pericardium, which also contains a small amount of fluid. The wall of th ...

Greatest Hits (Cardiacs Album)
''Greatest Hits'' (or ''Cardiacs Greatest Hits'') is a compilation album by the English rock band Cardiacs, released on 22 February 2002. The album is amusingly titled as it lacks many better-known songs including their biggest hit "Is This the Life". ''Greatest Hits'' features one new and otherwise unavailable track, called "Faster Than Snakes With a Ball and a Chain". This is described as having been taken from the then-forthcoming and as-yet untitled album that was to follow ''Greatest Hits'', the creation of which has evidently been abandoned by the band (not to be mistaken for ''LSD'', a later album left in a similar incomplete state.) Release On 22 February 2002, the Alphabet Business Concern released ''Greatest Hits'' through CD, distributed by Plastic Head Distribution (PHD). The Cardiacs website announced its release on 2 April. Critical reception In a retrospective review of ''On Land and in the Sea'' (1989), Nick Reed of ''The Quietus'' highlighted the ''Great ...

Guns (Cardiacs Album)
''Guns'' is the fifth and most recent studio album by English rock band Cardiacs. It was recorded and mixed at Apollo 8 in London and released in 1999. After a brief period of unavailability, the album was re-pressed in August 2007. Music Compared to other Cardiacs releases, ''Guns'' is often considered to be the band's most accessible album. A reviewer for Echoes and Dust describes the album as "Rock’n’Roll with more than a touch of the baroque" and as having "a very intimate feel." The musical style present on ''Guns'' has been compared to the music of Spratleys Japs, a side project that features Cardiacs band leader Tim Smith and ''Guns'' guest vocalist Joanne Spratley. Despite being considered relatively accessible for Cardiacs, a few tracks on ''Guns'' are among the most intricate compositions that the band released. For example, the end of the fifth track, "Jitterbug (junior is a)," had Tim Smith using several pieces of paper in order to keep track of his ideas inste ...

Sing To God
''Sing to God'' is the fourth studio album by English rock band Cardiacs. Their first album with drummer Bob Leith and their second as a four-piece, it was recorded throughout 1995, breaking a hiatus by the band that had lasted since the band's previous album ''Heaven Born and Ever Bright'' (1992). During writing and recording, Jon Poole took a greater role than before, contributing to many songs written by band leader Tim Smith, and writing some of his own. The band decided to create a double album to encompass the great wealth of material written after their previous album. As with the band's previous albums, it presents a unique sound, and is seen as more eclectic than the band's previous albums, with one reviewer describing the record as "essentially akingeverything Cardiacs had always been and ampingit up to maximum," and another saying the album was where "Smith's ability to express the music inside his head really began to transcend any sort of identifiable genre and tu ...

Tapping
Tapping is a playing technique that can be used on any stringed instrument, but which is most commonly used on guitar. The technique involves a string being fretted and set into vibration as part of a single motion. This is in contrast to standard techniques that involve fretting with one hand and picking with the other. Tapping is the primary technique intended for instruments such as the Chapman Stick. Description Tapping is an extended technique, executed by using either hand to 'tap' the strings against the fingerboard, thus producing legato notes. Tapping generally incorporates pull-offs or hammer-ons. For example, a right-handed guitarist might press down abruptly ("hammer") onto fret twelve with the index finger of the right hand and, in the motion of removing that finger, pluck ("pull") the same string already fretted at the eighth fret by the little finger of their left hand. This finger would be removed in the same way, pulling off to the fifth fret. Thus the three n ...

Jim Smith (bassist)
James A. Smith (born 14 April 1958) is an English musician, best known as the bass guitarist for the rock band Cardiacs which he formed with his brother Tim Smith. Along with performing backing vocals for the group, he co-wrote the hymn "The Alphabet Business Concern (Home of Fadeless Splendour)", sang lead vocals on "Food on the Wall" live, and his girlfriend ran the band's merch stall. Smith grew up in Chessington, Surrey, purchasing a bass in 1972. He co-founded the band that would become Cardiacs, Cardiac Arrest, in 1977 on bass and backing vocals, though he allegedly couldn't play an instrument. Co-writing the lyrics on the cassette album ''Toy World'' (1981), Smith played on every Cardiacs release and, along with Tim, was the only constant member in the band's regularly changing lineup. He became popular and was often bullied by his brother on stage during Cardiacs performances, with the band purportedly formed to punish him for the unkind things he would do to Tim as an in ...

Best known as the frontman of Dark Star and guitarist with Levitation, he has also released solo material as Mikrokosmos, which was produced by Tim Smith. Hayes explained that he was nicknamed Bic because he "just stopped eating for ages and people started saying I looked like a Bic biro. I had this phase when I thought eating was boring". Career Christian David Hayes was born on 10 June 1964 in London. Hayes formed the live thrash band Panixphere (also written as ''Panixsphere'') in 1982 with "Flat Hat" and future Cardiacs roadie Dominic "Little Hicky" Parker, which was initially active until 1984. By 1988, Hayes was playing guitar with psychedelic rock band Ring, moving on to become bass player with The Dave Howard Singers in 1989.
