Jon Gisle
Jon Gisle (born 19 November 1948) is a Norway, Norwegian jurist, encyclopedist and philologist. Biography He is cand.philol. (1974) and cand.jur. (1998) from the University of Oslo. He was publishing editor from 1977 to 1980 in Kunnskapsforlaget. Between 2003 and 2008, Gisle was judge in the Labour Court of Norway. Since 2008, he has had his own lawyer practice in Oslo in the lawyer fellowship Arbeidsrettsadvokatene. Gisle is also famous for being a cartoon expert, and in 1973 he published the Donald Duck analysis ''Donaldismen: En muntert-vitenskapelig studie over Donald Duck og hans verden'', in which he introduced the term "Donaldism." In 1986, Gisle founded with others the cartoon periodical ''TEGN'', in which he was editor-in-chief the first years. Kunnskapsforlaget () is a Norwegian publishing company based in Oslo. Kunnskapsforlaget was established in 1975, as a partnership between H. Aschehoug & Co. (W. Nygaard) and Gyldendal Norsk Forlag. The purpose was to co-operate on publishing encyclopaedias and dictionaries. The first volume of Store norske leksikon (SNL) was published in 1978. A total of four editions was published (the last one in 2004), before the online version was transferred to Institusjonen Fritt Ord og Sparebankstiftelsen DnB in 2011. Kunnskapsforlaget is the largest dictionary publisher in Norway. They publish both printed books, and digital dictionaries that are available through the online service Ordnett (launched in 2004). Oslo
Oslo ( , , or ; sma, Oslove) is the capital and most populous city of Norway. It constitutes both a county and a municipality. The municipality of Oslo had a population of in 2022, while the city's greater urban area had a population of in 2019, and the metropolitan area had an estimated population of in 2021. During the Viking Age the area was part of Viken. The ''Great Norwegian Encyclopedia'' ( no, Store Norske Leksikon, abbreviated ''SNL''), is a Norwegian-language online encyclopedia. The online encyclopedia is among the most-read Norwegian published sites, with more than two million unique visitors per month. Donald Fauntleroy Duck is a cartoon character created by The Walt Disney Company. Donald is an anthropomorphic white duck with a yellow-orange bill, legs, and feet. Donaldism
Donaldism is the fandom associated with Disney comics and cartoons. The name refers to Donald Duck and was first used by author Jon Gisle in his essay "Donaldismen" from 1971 and expanded in his book ''Donaldismen'' in 1973. In some (especially European) countries, Donaldism is mainly centred on comics and comic strips, while in other countries, e.g. the U.S., these are largely neglected while motion pictures and shorts are relatively much more popular. Originally the term, as defined by Gisle, referred to a "Research branch as well as the material that is the object of this research. In the latter meaning, the word denotes every Disney signed comic story. In the former meaning, Donaldism is a branch of comics research, specialising in the study of precisely Disney's production."
