Johnstone Harp F.C.
Johnstone Harp Football Club was a football club based in Johnstone, Renfrewshire, in Scotland. History During the 1884–85 season, the two senior clubs in Johnstone, Johnstone F.C. and Johnstone Rovers, agreed to merge. Rovers had a number of players with Irish roots, and, given the merged club had taken on Johnstone's colours and ground, there may have been some dissatisfaction, as for the 1886–87 the Irish community in Johnstone formed a new club, the Harp. Whereas the merged Johnstone club only had 82 to 86 members in 1886, the Harp started out with 100. Despite this size advantage, the development of football had already passed the town by, with the merger of clubs happening too late for sustained success, and the split between Johnstone and Harp further diluting the available resources. The 1888–89 Scottish Cup was the 16th season of Scotland's most prestigious football knockout competition. 3rd Lanark RV beat Glasgow rivals Celtic (making their Cup début) 2–1 in a replayed final. Peter Dowds
Peter Dowds (24 August 1871 – 2 September 1895) was a Scottish footballer, who played in the Football League for Aston Villa and Stoke. Career Dowds (name spelled Douds in some documentation) was born in Johnstone and joined Celtic in 1889. He began his career as a forward and scored 21 goals in 1890–91 as Celtic finished the inaugural Scottish League season in 3rd place behind Dumbarton and Rangers. He moved to left-half for the 1891–92 campaign as Celtic finished in 2nd place, again behind Dumbarton, and won the Scottish Cup. He was tempted to move into English football with Aston Villa in the summer of 1892 and he played 20 times in 1892–93 scoring three goals as Villa finished fourth. He then moved on to Stoke where he spent the 1893–94 season playing 19 times as Stoke ended in up in 11th place. Elderslie railway station was a railway station serving the west of Elderslie, Scotland, originally as part of the Glasgow, Paisley, Kilmarnock and Ayr Railway (now the Ayrshire Coast Line). Thornliebank ( Scots: ''Thonliebank'', Scottish Gaelic: ''Bruach nan Dealgan'') is a suburban area in East Renfrewshire, in the west central Lowlands of Scotland. Part of the Greater Glasgow conurbation, it is located on the Auldhouse Burn about south of Glasgow city centre, and just outside the city's administrative boundaries (the closest neighbourhoods within Glasgow, to the west and north of Thornliebank, being Arden, Carnwadric, Eastwood, Jenny Lind and Mansewood). The neighbouring East Renfrewshire town of Giffnock lies directly to the east, with Rouken Glen Park to the south. The original village was founded in the 18th century and began to develop after the opening of a printworks in 1778, and subsequently other light industry.
