Johnny Ray Salling
Johnny Ray Salling (born October 31, 1961) is an American politician from Maryland from the Republican Party. He is currently serving as a Maryland State Senator representing District 6, which covers southeast Baltimore County, including Dundalk, Essex and Rosedale. Early life and career Salling was born in Baltimore, Maryland on October 31, 1961, where he graduated from Sparrows Point High School. In 1979, he joined the United States Army, serving as a combat engineer until 1981. Upon his return to the United States, he worked as a steel worker for LaFarge of North America at the Bethlehem Steel Mill in Sparrows Point, Maryland for more than 30 years, where he gained experience as a union representative for the United Steelworkers of America union. Maryland's Legislative District 6 is one of 47 districts in the state for the Maryland General Assembly. It covers part of Baltimore County. Demographic characteristics As of the 2020 United States census, the district had a population of 128,766, of whom 98,958 (76.9%) were of voting age. The racial makeup of the district was 79,430 (61.7%) White, 26,074 (20.2%) African American, 1,143 (0.9%) Native American, 2,777 (2.2%) Asian, 34 (0.0%) Pacific Islander, 9,149 (7.1%) from some other race, and 10,146 (7.9%) from two or more races. Maryland's 2nd congressional district elects a representative to the United States House of Representatives every two years. The district comprises parts of Howard, Harford, Baltimore, and Anne Arundel Counties, as well as small portions of the City of Baltimore. Peter Franchot
Peter Van Rensselaer Franchot (born November 25, 1947) is an American politician who is the 33rd Comptroller of Maryland. A member of the Democratic Party, Franchot served for 20 years in the Maryland House of Delegates representing Takoma Park and Silver Spring. He was elected comptroller in 2006, and has subsequently been re-elected three times. Franchot unsuccessfully ran for governor of Maryland in 2022, placing third in the Democratic primary behind Tom Perez and Wes Moore. The Comptroller of the State of Maryland is Maryland's chief financial officer, elected by the people to a four-year term. The Comptroller is not term-limited. The office was established by the second Maryland Constitution of 1851 due to concern about the potential for fraud and corruption in the administration of the public treasury. 2022 Maryland Senate Elections
The 2022 Maryland Senate election were held on November 8, 2022, to elect senators in all 47 districts of the Maryland Senate. Members were elected in single-member constituencies to four-year terms. These elections were held concurrently with various federal and state elections, including for Governor of Maryland. The Democratic and Republican primaries were held on July 19, 2022.
