John Woods (logician)
John Hayden Woods (born 1937) is a Canadian logician and philosopher. He currently holds the position of Director of the Abductive Systems Group at the University of British Columbia (UBC) and is The UBC Honorary Professor of Logic. He is also affiliated with the Group on Logic, Information and Computation within the Department of Informatics at King's College London where he has held the Charles S. Peirce Visiting Professorship of Logic position since 2001. Woods is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, life member of the Association of Fellows of the Netherlands Institute for Advanced Study, and President Emeritus of the University of Lethbridge. Woods' education includes a BA and MA in philosophy from the University of Toronto, and a 1965 PhD in philosophy from the University of Michigan where his adviser was Arthur Burks. John Woods (civil Servant)
Sir John Harold Edmund Woods, GCB, MVO (20 April 1895 – 2 December 1962) was a senior British civil servant. He was Permanent Secretary to the Ministry of Production from 1943 to 1945, and to the Board of Trade from 1945 to 1951. He was therefore responsible for maintaining production during the Second World War, and then managing (and winding down) post-war controls and increasing the United Kingdom's exports. He had been Principal Assistant Secretary at HM Treasury between 1940 and 1943, overseeing expenditure for the armed forces during the Second World War. Woods was appointed MVO in 1930, CB in 1943, KCB in 1945 and GCB in 1949. Crawford Woods, was the first minister of the Adelaide Unitarian Christian Church, South Australia, serving from 1855 to 1889. John Woods is a Scottish former professional footballer who played as an inside forward. Career After playing for Pollok, Woods signed for Rangers at the age of 15, and made one appearance for them in the Scottish Football League during the 1954–1955 season. That match was on 26 March 1955, and resulted in a 1–0 win for Rangers at home to Queen of the South. After leaving Rangers, Woods next played for Hamilton Academical, scoring 19 goals in 49 League appearances for them. Woods then moved to Canada to play for Winnipeg, later moving to Vancouver. In the Pacific Coast League, Woods played five seasons for Vancouver St. Andrews FC and four seasons for North Shore United FC / Luckies. While playing for St. Andrews in 1962, Woods received a two-year ban for refusing to play in an exhibition game for the Vancouver All-Stars. John Fulton Woods (January 18, 1898 – October 4, 1946) was a professional baseball pitcher and police officer. He appeared in one game in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Boston Red Sox during the 1924 season. Listed at , . During his career, Woods batted and threw right-handed. Born in Princeton, West Virginia, Woods played college baseball at West Virginia University for the Mountaineers. After briefly attending law school, he was signed by the Red Sox and pitched one inning in his only MLB game, an 8–4 loss to the Chicago White Sox on September 16, 1924. He gave up no runs but walked three batters. Woods then played minor league baseball before joining the Norfolk Police Department in 1929.
