John Wood (congressman)
John Wood (September 6, 1816 – May 28, 1898) was a Republican member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Pennsylvania. John Wood (uncle of Alan Wood, Jr.) was born in Philadelphia. He attended the Friends Society schools of Philadelphia, and was employed by his father in the manufacture of tools and agricultural machinery from 1832 to 1840. He was engaged in the manufacture of iron and steel near Wilmington, Delaware, from 1841 to 1844. He moved to Conshohocken, Pennsylvania, in 1844 and engaged in the milling of iron and steel. He was first burgess of Conshohocken. Wood was elected as a Republican to the Thirty-sixth Congress. He was not a candidate for renomination in 1860. He resumed his former manufacturing pursuits and died in Conshohocken in 1898. William Morris Davis (congressman)
William Morris Davis (August 16, 1815August 5, 1891), was an abolitionist, author and a Republican member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Pennsylvania. Among his friends were the New York sculptor Henry Kirke Brown, and the lock inventor Linus Yale. Biography William Morris Davis was born in Keene Valley, New York. He moved to Pennsylvania and became a sugar refiner in Philadelphia. Davis was elected as a Republican to the Thirty-seventh Congress. He was elected as a member to the American Philosophical Society in 1883. He died in Keene Valley in 1891. Interment in Friends Fair Hill Burial Ground in Germantown, Pennsylvania. Owen Jones (congressman)
Owen Jones (December 29, 1819 – December 25, 1878) was an American politician from Pennsylvania who served as a Democratic member of the U.S. House of Representatives for Pennsylvania's 5th congressional district for one term from 1857 to 1859. During the American Civil War he raised a troop of cavalry that would become Company B of the 1st Pennsylvania Cavalry Regiment and served as colonel. Early life and education Owen Jones was born on December 29, 1819, near Ardmore, Pennsylvania, to Jonathan and Mary (nee McClenaghan) Jones. He attended the public schools and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. He studied law in Philadelphia under William M. Meredith. He was admitted to the bar of Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, in 1842, and commenced practice in Ardmore. Montgomery Cemetery is a historic cemetery located near the Schuylkill River on Hartranft Avenue and along Jackson Street in West Norriton Township, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, immediately adjacent to and southwest of the Municipality of Norristown.
