John William Ronald Illangakoon
John William Ronald Ilangakoon, KC (16 August 1894 - 1982) was a Ceylonese lawyer. He was the 25th Attorney General of Ceylon and 11th Solicitor General of Ceylon. Having qualified as a barrister, he became an advocate. In 1928 he was appointed a District Judge and in 1935 he was appointed Solicitor General succeeding L. M. D. de Silva. He was succeeded by Arthur Wijewardena and was appointed King's Counsel in 1936. He was appointed Attorney General on 1 October 1936, succeeding John Curtois Howard, and held the office until 1942. He was succeeded by Manikku Wadumestri Hendrick de Silva. He was the first Sinhalese to hold the office of Attorney General. He married Annette Lena Dias Bandaranaike daughter of Justice Felix Reginald Dias Bandaranaike I on 10 October 1914. His brother S. W. King's Counsel
In the United Kingdom and in some Commonwealth countries, a King's Counsel ( post-nominal initials KC) during the reign of a king, or Queen's Counsel (post-nominal initials QC) during the reign of a queen, is a lawyer (usually a barrister or advocate) who is typically a senior trial lawyer. Technically appointed by the monarch of the country to be one of 'His erMajesty's Counsel learned in the law', the position originated in England and Wales. Some Commonwealth countries have either abolished the position, or renamed it so as to remove monarchical connotations, for example, 'Senior counsel' or 'Senior Advocate'. Mudaliyar
Thuluva Vellalar (Thondamandala Tuluva Vellalar), also known as Agamudaya Mudaliars and Arcot Mudaliars, is a caste found in northern Tamil Nadu, southern Andhra Pradesh and southern Karnataka, India. They were originally significant landowners. Etymology The term Vellalar may be derived from the word Vellam meaning water (flood), denoting their ability to control and store water for irrigation purposes. Since they migrated from the Tulu country, they are called Thuluva Vellalar. A solicitor is a legal practitioner who traditionally deals with most of the legal matters in some jurisdictions. A person must have legally-defined qualifications, which vary from one jurisdiction to another, to be described as a solicitor and enabled to practise there as such. Felix Reginald Dias Bandaranaike I
Justice Felix Reginald Dias Bandaranaike I ( si, ෆෙලික්ස් රෙජිනල්ඩ් ඩයස් බණඩාරනායක; 26 July 1861 – 30 January 1947) was a Ceylonese (Sri Lankan) judge and lawyer. He was a Judge of the Supreme Court of Ceylon. Born to Rev. Canon Samuel William Dias Bandaranaike, he was educated at S. Thomas' College and the Colombo Academy. He went on to Trinity Hall, Cambridge gaining a MA and LLM from the University of Cambridge. He apprenticed to Henry Fielding Dickens, KC and was admitted to the Inner Temple in 1887 and took oaths as an Advocate in Ceylon in 1888. He started his practice as an Advocate, before joining the judicial service as Police Magistrate and Commissioner of Requests in Gampola. From 1893 to 1897 he served as Crown Counsel. John Curtois Howard
Sir John Curtois Howard KC (15 January 1887 – 19 November 1970) was an English magistrate who was the 27th Chief Justice of Ceylon. He was appointed in 1939 succeeding the acting Francis Soertsz and was Chief Justice until 1945. He was succeeded by Arthur Wijewardena, also after the acting Francis Soertsz. Howard was born in Spalding, Lincolnshire, to FitzAlan Howard and Edith Thacker. He was educated at Uppingham School and Clare College, Cambridge. He was called to the bar a year before the First World War, and his career was interrupted by six years in the British Army. After the war, he accepted a job in the Colonial Legal Service, serving as Attorney General of Cyprus, Solicitor-General of Nigeria and Attorney-General of the Gold Coast (now Ghana). In 1936, he was promoted to Legal Secretary, Ceylon. After returning to England, from 1953 to 1957, he was chairman of the Police Council for Great Britain.
