William O'Brien
William O'Brien (2 October 1852 – 25 February 1928) was an Irish nationalist, journalist, agrarian agitator, social revolutionary, politician, party leader, newspaper publisher, author and Member of Parliament (MP) in the House of Commons of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. He was particularly associated with the campaigns for land reform in Ireland during the late 19th and early 20th centuries as well as his conciliatory approach to attaining Irish Home Rule. Family, education William O'Brien was born at Bank Place in Mallow, County Cork, as second son of James O'Brien, a solicitor's clerk, and his wife Kate, the daughter of James Nagle, a local shopkeeper. Michael Collins ( ga, Mícheál Ó Coileáin; 16 October 1890 – 22 August 1922) was an Irish revolutionary period, Irish revolutionary, soldier and politician who was a leading figure in the early-20th century struggle for Irish independence. Edward Barry (1852 – 7 December 1927), sometimes known as Ned Barry, was an Irish nationalist politician who served as Member of Parliament (MP) for South Cork from 1892 to 1910. Barry was elected to the United Kingdom House of Commons at the 1892 general election as an Anti-Parnellite Irish National Federation candidate, and joined the Irish Parliamentary Party when the split was resolved in early 1900. He held his seat until the general election in December 1910. He also served as chairman of Clonakilty board of guardians. Kilbrittain
Kilbrittain or Killbrittain () is the name of a village, townland and parish in County Cork, Ireland. The village lies about southwest of Bandon, and near Courtmacsherry and Timoleague. The coastal route around the edge of the parish is the R600 road. The village itself is around inland from the coast. Local estates Kilbrittain Castle is reputed to be one of the oldest inhabited castles in Ireland. The castle is thought to date from 1035 where the original fortress may have been built by the O'Mahony clan. Known to have been in the hands of the Norman family of de Courcey and possibly extended in the 13th century, Kilbrittain Castle was the principal seat of MacCarthy Reagh family, Princes of Carbery and Kings of Desmond, from the early 15th century. 1918 Irish General Election
The 1918 Irish general election was the part of the 1918 United Kingdom general election which took place in Ireland. It is now seen as a key moment in modern Irish history because it saw the overwhelming defeat of the moderate nationalist Irish Parliamentary Party (IPP), which had dominated the Irish political landscape since the 1880s, and a landslide victory for the radical Sinn Féin party. Sinn Féin had never previously stood in a general election, but had won six seats in by-elections in 1917–18. The party had vowed in its manifesto to establish an independent Irish Republic. In Ulster, however, the Unionist Party was the most successful party. The election was held in the aftermath of the First World War, the Easter Rising and the Conscription Crisis.
