Edward Barry (South Cork MP)
Edward Barry (1852 – 7 December 1927), sometimes known as Ned Barry, was an Irish nationalist politician who served as Member of Parliament (MP) for South Cork from 1892 to 1910. Barry was elected to the United Kingdom House of Commons at the 1892 general election as an Anti-Parnellite Irish National Federation candidate, and joined the Irish Parliamentary Party when the split was resolved in early 1900. He held his seat until the general election in December 1910. He also served as chairman of Clonakilty board of guardians. Her died at his residence at Rathbarry Castlefreke, also known as Rathbarry (), is a townland and village in County Cork, Ireland. The Irish National Federation (INF) was a nationalist political party in Ireland. It was founded in 1891 by former members of the Irish National League (INL), after a split in the Irish Parliamentary Party (IPP) on the leadership of Charles Stewart Parnell. Parnell had refused to resign his leadership of the party after being named in divorce proceedings against Katharine O'Shea by the former MP William O'Shea. In the aftermath of the divorce, William Ewart Gladstone, leader of the Liberal Party, had declared that he would not work with Parnell, damaging the parliamentary alliance between the IPP and the Liberals. The group, which became known as the Anti-Parnellites, had a larger membership than the rump of the INL that stood by Parnell, was led first by Justin McCarthy, then by John Dillon. Rosscarbery () is a village and census town in County Cork, Ireland. The village is on a shallow estuary, which opens onto Rosscarbery Bay. Rosscarbery is in the Cork South-West (Dáil Éireann) constituency, which has three seats. History The area has been occupied since at least the Neolithic period, as evidenced by several Neolithic sites such as portal dolmens. The area is also home to a number of Bronze Age remains, including a number of stone circles and ring forts. There are two inscribed stones in Burgatia, and several (later) holy wells nearby. Rosscarbery was home to the School of Ross, a major centre of learning, at one time being a university town, and one of the major cities in Europe, around the 6th century.
