John Wall (Saskatchewan Politician)
John Vern Wall (March 13, 1938 – April 22, 2010) was an educator and political figure in Saskatchewan. He represented Swift Current (provincial electoral district), Swift Current from 1995 to 1999 in the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan as a Saskatchewan New Democratic Party, New Democratic Party (NDP) member. He was born in Swift Current, Saskatchewan and was educated at the Moose Jaw Normal School and at the University of Saskatchewan, receiving a Bachelor of Education, BEd in 1968. Wall taught elementary school from 1957 to 1967 and then was a junior high principal until his retirement in 1988. He was defeated by Brad Wall (no relation) when he ran for reelection to the assembly in 1999. He died in 2010. Legislative Assembly Of Saskatchewan
The Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan is the legislative chamber of the Saskatchewan Legislature in the province of Saskatchewan, Canada. Bills passed by the assembly are given royal assent by the Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan, in the name of the King in Right of Saskatchewan. The assembly meets at the Saskatchewan Legislative Building in Regina. There are 61 constituencies in the province, which elect members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) to the Legislative Assembly. All are single-member districts, though the cities of Regina, Saskatoon and Moose Jaw were in the past represented through multi-member districts, with members elected through Block Voting. Saskatchewan New Democratic Party
The Saskatchewan New Democratic Party (NDP) is a social-democratic political party in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan. It currently forms the official opposition, but has been a dominant force in Saskatchewan politics since the 1940s. The party is the successor to the Saskatchewan section of the Co-operative Commonwealth Federation (CCF), and is affiliated with the federal New Democratic Party. History Precursors The origins of the party began as early as 1902. In that year a group of farmers created the Territorial Grain Growers' Association. The objective of this group was to lobby for farmer's rights with the grain trade and the railways. Swift Current
Swift Current is the fifth largest city in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan. It is situated along the Trans Canada Highway west of Moose Jaw, and east of Medicine Hat, Alberta. Swift Current grew 6.8% between 2011 and 2016, ending up at 16,604 residents. The city is surrounded by the Rural Municipality of Swift Current No. 137. History Swift Current's history began with Swift Current Creek which originates at Cypress Hills and traverses of prairie and empties into the South Saskatchewan River. Brad Wall
Bradley John Wall (born November 24, 1965), is a Canadian former politician who served as the 14th premier of Saskatchewan from November 21, 2007 until February 2, 2018. He is the fourth longest-tenured premier in the province's history. His son, Colter Wall is a country music singer. Wall was first elected to the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan as the Member for Swift Current in 1999, and he was re-elected four times, in 2003, 2007, 2011, and 2016. He became leader of the Official Opposition Saskatchewan Party on July 15, 2004, replacing Elwin Hermanson, and he led the party to a majority government in the 2007 election.
