John W. Douglass (politician)
John W. Douglass (born March 19, 1942) is an American former politician in the state of Maryland. He served in the Maryland House of Delegates as a Democrat from the 45th district from 1971 to 1995 during which time he resided in Baltimore. He did not run for re-election in 1994. Early life and career Douglass was born in Princess Anne, Maryland on March 19, 1942. He attended Lincoln University, where he earned an A.B. degree cum laude in 1964, and Johns Hopkins University, where he earned a M.A. degree in 1966. After graduating, he worked as a clerk to the Baltimore City Council from 1967 to 1968. After retiring from the Maryland House of Delegates, Douglass worked as the Deputy Director for the State Department of Assessments and Taxation. Maryland House of Delegates District 45 is one of 47 legislative districts in the state of Maryland and is one of the 5 located entirely within Baltimore City. Voters in this district select three delegates every four years to represent them in the Maryland House of Delegates. Harry Hughes
Harry Roe Hughes (November 13, 1926 – March 13, 2019) was an American politician from the Democratic Party who served as the 57th Governor of Maryland from 1979 to 1987. Early life and family Hughes was born in Easton, Maryland, the son of Helen (Roe) and Jonathan Longfellow Hughes. Hughes attended Caroline County, Maryland, public schools before attending the Mercersburg Academy in Mercersburg, Pennsylvania. After school, Hughes served in the U.S. Naval Air Corps during the Second World War. After the War, Hughes continued his education by attending Mount Saint Mary's University and the University of Maryland, from which he graduated in 1949. At Maryland he was a member of the Alpha Psi chapter of the Theta Chi social fraternity. He received his law degree from The George Washington University Law School in 1952 and was admitted to the Maryland Bar the same year. Nancy K. Kopp (born December 7, 1943) is an American politician who previously served as the Treasurer of Maryland from 2002 to 2021. A Democrat, she was a member of the Maryland House of Delegates, representing the 16th legislative district in Montgomery County, from 1975 to 2002. (also known as The Maryland Legislative Black Caucus) is an American political organization composed of African Americans elected to the Maryland General Assembly. Lucille Maurer
Lucille Maurer (née Darvin; 1922 – June 17, 1996) was the first woman Treasurer of Maryland. Life Maurer graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics, and she worked as an economist at the U.S. Tariff Commission. She obtained a Master of Arts in General Studies from Yale University and moved to Montgomery County, Maryland in 1950. In 1969, Maurer was appointed to fill a vacancy in the Maryland House of Delegates after serving two terms on the county school board. She was re-elected to several terms, serving as a member of the Ways and Means Committee for sixteen years and chairing the Education Committee and the Tax and Trade Committee. She was known for her work on educational issues, devising a formula to equalize public education funding by increasing state funds for poorer jurisdictions.
