John Steele (Nova Scotia Politician)
John Steele (died spring 1762) was a surgeon and political figure in Nova Scotia. He came to City of Halifax, Halifax with Edward Cornwallis in 1749 and moved to Annapolis Royal, Nova Scotia, Annapolis around 1759, where he set up practice. It is recorded that, in 1752, Steele had several children over the age of sixteen. In 1761, he was named a justice of the peace for Annapolis County, Nova Scotia, Annapolis County. He represented Annapolis County in the 3rd General Assembly of Nova Scotia from 1761 to 1762. His seat was declared vacant on May 4, 1762 due to his death. References

John Washington Steele
John Washington Steele (1843 – December 31, 1920), also known as Coal Oil Johnny, was one of the first oil millionaires acquiring their wealth from the oil discovered in Pennsylvania in the mid-19th century. Biography John Washington Steele was born in Sheakleyville, Pennsylvania in 1843. In 1864, soon after wealth came to him through inheritance from the McClintocks' oil, the orphan John Steele left the farm which he had inherited from his foster or adoptive family, the McClintocks, and began a lavish and picturesque life, rapidly spending his way through his fortune. He was often seen in Philadelphia riding in his carriage with "the picture of an oil derrick, an oil tank, and a flowing well" painted on its doors. Steele eventually sold his farm to William H. John Hyslop Steele (15 November 1926 – 4 November 2013) was a British oceanographer who made major contributions to the study of marine ecosystems. John Steele (March 21, 1821 – December 31, 1903) was an Irish-American pioneer, local politician, physician, and astrologist. Born in Ireland, after converting to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Glasgow, Steele and his wife emigrated to Nauvoo, Illinois. Steele joined the Mormon Battalion and traveled to Salt Lake City with the Mormon pioneers. He was one of the founders of Parowan, Utah. Steele also contributed to the development of Iron, Kane, and Washington counties in Utah. He practiced as an unorthodox physician in Toquerville, using herbs, astrology, and aspects of magic to treat patients. John Steele (April 9, 1909 – June 7, 1996) was an American ski jumper. Steele was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and moved with his family to Steamboat Springs, Colorado in 1918. When he was 12 he ski jumped at the local Winter Carnival, and continued to jump at the carnival for 20 years. While employed shovelling snow off a bank roof, he built a ski jump on the bank, which he used until the sheriff made him stop because of fears he would jump in front of passing traffic. In 1924 he broke the world record in ski jumping for boys 14 and under. He went on to attend the University of Denver, where he founded the Pioneer Ski Club.
