John Steel (Canadian Politician)
John Steel (ca 1737 – May 13, 1826) was a Scottish-born ship's captain and political figure in Lower Canada. He represented Bedford in the Legislative Assembly of Lower Canada from 1800 to 1804. His name also appears as John Steele. He was born in Ayrshire and served as a volunteer in the British Navy during the American Revolution, reaching the rank of captain. In 1784, he arrived in Halifax, Nova Scotia as a midshipman. In 1785, he went to Quebec City, where he served as ship commander in the Lower Canada navy. Around 1787, he married Nancy Griggs. John Steel (drummer)
John Steel (born 4 February 1941) is an English musician who is the drummer for The Animals. Having served as the band's drummer at its inception in 1963, he is the only original bandmember playing in the current incarnation of The Animals. He was inducted with the band into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994. Early life John Steel was the youngest of four children. He attended Gateshead Grammar School. As a child, he and his siblings took piano lessons, though only Steel would go on to have a career in music. He was featured in the Ziegfeld Follies of 1919 and 1920 and Irving Berlin's Music Box Revues of 1922 and 1923. John Meredith Steel (born 27 October 1972 in Auckland) is a former freestyle swimmer from New Zealand, who competed at two consecutive Summer Olympics for his native country, starting in 1992 in Barcelona, Spain. Steel won two silver medals (4 × 100 m Freestyle and 4 × 200 m Freestyle) at the 1994 Commonwealth Games in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. Four years earlier Steel captured the bronze medal with the Men's 4x200 Freestyle Relay Team at the 1990 Commonwealth Games in his hometown of Auckland. Steel now works for Air NZ as a flight attendant. Despite being from New Zealand he won the 1990 'Open' ASA National Championship 100 metres freestyle title. Air Chief Marshal Sir John Miles Steel, (11 September 1877 – 2 December 1965) was a senior Royal Air Force commander. Military career Steel attended the training ship ''Britannia'' from 1892 to 1894. and subsequently served in the Royal Navy. He was promoted to sub-lieutenant in 1897 and served in the Second Boer War as a member of the Naval Brigade. He was promoted to lieutenant in 1900, and was posted temporary in July 1902 to , serving in the Channel Squadron. A permanent posting followed in September that year, when he was posted to , coast guard ship at Portsmouth. Promotion to commander followed in 1912, and to captain in 1916. In 1917 Steel was transferred from fleet duties to the Royal Naval Air Service and was appointed Officer Commanding RNAS Eastchurch. (born John Richbourg, August 20, 1910 - February 15, 1986) was an American radio disc jockey who attained fame in the 1950s and 1960s for playing rhythm and blues music on Nashville radio station WLAC. He was also a notable record producer and artist manager. Richbourg was arguably the most popular and charismatic of the four announcers at WLAC who showcased popular African-American music in nightly programs from the late 1940s to the early 1970s. Jon Steel , full name Jonathan Steel (born 14 March 1980), also known by the nicknames of "Steely" and "Rocket", is a former rugby league and rugby union footballer who played professionally from 1996 until 2013. Sir John Robert Steell (Aberdeen 18 September 1804 – 15 September 1891) was a Scottish sculptor. He modelled many of the leading figures of Scottish history and culture, and is best known for a number of sculptures displayed in Edinburgh, including the statue of Sir Walter Scott at the base of the Scott Monument.
