John Sobel
John Sobel (born February 15, 1964) is a former professional tennis player from the United States. Career Sobel was seen mostly on the doubles circuit. He appeared in three Grand Slam (tennis), Grand Slam events during his career. In the men's doubles he played with Ville Jansson at the 1990 US Open (tennis), 1990 US Open and Slobodan Živojinović in the 1992 Australian Open. As a mixed doubles player he took part in the 1990 French Open, partnering Lise Gregory. On each occasion, Sobel and his partner were eliminated in the opening round. The highlight of his career was winning the doubles title at the 1992 Maceió Open, with Gabriel Markus. The Kremlin Cup (russian: Кубок Кремля) is a professional tennis tournament played on indoor hard courts, which was suspended in 2022. It was part of the ATP Tour 250 series of the ATP Tour and was a Premier Tournament on the WTA Tour. It was held annually at the Olympic Stadium in Moscow, Russia from 1990 to 2018. In 2019, the Olympic Stadium underwent a reconstruction lasting two years. The 2019 edition of the tournament was held at the Ice Palace Krylatskoye. Jimmy Arias
James Arias (born August 16, 1964) is a retired tennis touring professional player from the United States. Biography Arias was born in Grand Island, near Buffalo, New York. A baseliner, Arias turned pro at age 16 in 1980. His peak year was 1983, when as a 19-year-old he finished the year ranked World No. 6, having reached the U.S. Open semi-finals by defeating Jonathan Canter, Tom Gullikson, Gianni Ocleppo, Joakim Nyström and Yannick Noah, and then lost to Ivan Lendl. He also won the Italian Open and three other tour grand prix events. He reached his career high ranking of World No. 5 in April 1984. Sven Salumaa (born on October 21, 1966) is a former professional tour tennis player who mostly played tour tennis in doubles. Tour career Salumaa was born in Huntington, New York to Eduard and Tamara Salumaa who were immigrants from Estonia. During Salumaa's tennis career he won one doubles title and achieved a career-high doubles ranking of world No. 25 in 1992. Eduardo Furusho
Eduardo Furusho (born 6 July 1968) is a Brazilian former professional tennis player of Japanese descent. He is also known as Daijiro Furusho. Born in São Paulo, Furusho began playing tennis at the age of nine and turned professional in 1987. Furusho, a left-handed player, made the second round of the 1988 Athens Open but made most of his Grand Prix/ATP Tour main draw appearances as a doubles player. The Madrid Tennis Grand Prix is a defunct professional men's tennis tournament that was played on outdoor clay courts in Madrid, Spain with the exception of the 1984 edition which was played on indoor carpet courts. The ATP Tour is a worldwide top-tier tennis tour for men organized by the Association of Tennis Professionals. The second-tier tour is the ATP Challenger Tour and the third-tier is the ITF Men's World Tennis Tour. The equivalent women's organisation is the WTA Tour. The Grand Prix tennis circuit was a professional tennis tour for male players that existed from 1970 to 1989. The Grand Prix and World Championship Tennis (WCT) were the two predecessors to the current tour for male players, the ATP Tour, with the Grand Prix being more prominent. Background Before the Open Era, popular professional tennis players, such as Suzanne Lenglen and Vincent Richards, were contracted to professional promoters. Amateur players were under the jurisdiction of their national (and international) federations. Later professional promoters, such as Bill Tilden and Jack Kramer, often convinced leading amateurs like Pancho Gonzales and Rod Laver to join their tours with promises of good prize money. Gabriel Markus
Gabriel Markus (born 31 March 1970) is a former professional tennis player from Argentina. Career A clay court specialist, Markus was a quarter-finalist in the Boys' Singles event at the 1987 French Open and at his best was ranked second in the Argentine junior rankings. The right-handed player made the fourth round of the US Open in 1991, the furthest he would reach in a Grand Slam. Along the way he defeated Diego Nargiso, Stefano Pescosolido and Jan Siemerink. At the 1992 French Open he memorably pushed second seed Stefan Edberg to five sets in the second round, but was unable to register a win. Markus won France's Phillips Open in 1992, his only title win on the ATP World Tour. He upset top seed Peter Sampras in the semi-finals. He participated in two Davis Cup ties for the Argentine team.
