John Reid, Baron Reid Of Cardowan
John Reid, Baron Reid of Cardowan (born 8 May 1947), is a British Labour Party politician. He was a Member of Parliament from 1987 to 2010, and served in the Cabinet under Prime Minister Tony Blair in a number of positions. He was Health Secretary from 2003 to 2005, Defence Secretary from 2005 to 2006, and Home Secretary from 2006 to 2007. Born in Bellshill to working-class, Roman Catholic parents, Reid first became involved in politics when he joined the Young Communist League in 1972. He later joined the Labour Party, working for them as a senior researcher before being elected to the House of Commons in 1987 as the MP for Motherwell North. He retired from frontline politics in 2007 following Gordon Brown's appointment as Prime Minister, taking on a role as the Chairman of Celtic Football Club. John Reid (American Football)
John Earl Reid (born May 15, 1996) is an American football cornerback who is a free agent. He played college football at Penn State. Early life and high school career A native of Mount Laurel, New Jersey, he played high school football at St. Joseph's Prep in Philadelphia where he was a three-year starter. College career Reid attended the Pennsylvania State University. He started two games as a true freshman and played in 13 games, earning ESPN.com's Big Ten All-Freshman team honors. He started all 14 games in 2016 as a sophomore, helping Penn State win a Big Ten Championship and make a trip to the Rose Bowl. Reid redshirted the 2017 season due to a knee injury. John Reid (British Army Officer)
John Reid (13 February 1721 – 6 February 1807), previously known as John Robertson, was a British army general and founder of the chair of music at the University of Edinburgh. Strongly connected to Edinburgh, he gives his name to the Reid School of Music. Reid Concerts and Reid Orchestra. "I that in Heill wes and Gladnes", also known as "The Lament for the Makaris", is a poem in the form of a danse macabre by the Scottish poet William Dunbar. Every fourth line repeats the Latin refrain ''timor mortis conturbat me'' (fear of death troubles me), a litanic phrase from the Office of the Dead. Apart from its literary quality, the poem is notable for the list of makars it contains, some of whom are historically attestable as poets only from Dunbar's testimony in this work. After listing Lydgate, Gower and Chaucer, the makars invoked are Scottish. All but two are cited as having died by the time of the composition. The two exceptions are the courtier Patrick Johnston and known poet Walter Kennedy, the latter of whom died ''circa'' 1508. Nightcrawlers is a British house music project from Glasgow, Scotland, assembled by producer, DJ and vocalist John Reid (born 6 September 1963). Career Beginnings: 1992–1996 In the early 90s, the band Nightcrawlers was formed as a more soul and funk-influenced pop act and featured vocalist John Reid (who had some local success as a DJ and vocalist with a number of other acts in the late 1980s). The band signed to Island Records' 4th & Broadway record label and released their debut single "Living Inside a Dream", which failed to reach any commercial success. The band then decided to release a second single, " Push the Feeling On", which also failed to go Top 40 in its original acid jazz-styled version and so the band were dropped from Island records, splitting up not so long afterwards. Johnny Reid
John Kirkland Reid (born August 21, 1974) is a Scottish-Canadian country music artist. Reid moved to Canada in July 1988 when he was 13. His father, a diesel mechanic, wanted to give Reid and his brother opportunities he did not think they would have in Scotland. He graduated from Turner Fenton Secondary School in Brampton, Ontario, in 1992. Reid went on to attend Bishop's University in Lennoxville, Quebec, where he met his wife (and was a kicker on the varsity football team). Reid moved to Nashville, Tennessee to make country music; he and his family reside in Nashville. He was nominated for the 2008 Juno Award for Country Recording of the Year for ''Kicking Stones''. Reid was named Male Artist of the Year at both the 2008 and 2009 CCMA Awards. John Reid (born 9 September 1949) is a Scottish former music manager, known for being the manager and former lover of singer Elton John, as well as for managing the British rock band Queen. Life and career Reid was born in Paisley, Renfrewshire, Scotland, the son of John Reid, a welder, and Betty, a shop worker. Apart from three years in New Zealand, he was brought up in the Gallowhill district of Paisley. He attended St Mirin's Academy, where he was a fellow pupil with singers Gerry Rafferty and Joe Egan. At the age of 16 he attended Stow College in Glasgow where he studied marine engineering, but dropped out to move to London in 1967. Andrew Tobias (born April 20, 1947) is an American writer. He has written extensively about investment, as well as politics, insurance, and other topics. He is also known for writing ''The Best Little Boy in the World'', a 1973 memoir – originally pseudonymous – about life as a gay man. From 1999 until 2017, he was treasurer of the Democratic National Committee. Education Tobias graduated from Harvard College in 1968 with a BA in Slavic languages and literature. In 1972, he obtained his Master of Business Administration degree from Harvard Business School. John Reid Jr. (born – 8 October 1946) was a Scottish professional golfer. He finished in tenth place in the 1895 U.S. Open. Early life Reid was born circa 1870 in Scotland and emigrated to the United States. Golf career 1895 U.S. Open Reid finished in tenth place in the 1895 U.S. Open, held on Friday, 4 October, at Newport Golf Club in Newport, Rhode Island.
