John Piper (broadcaster)
John Piper was the mid-morning host on BBC Radio Solent throughout the 1970s. His programme was called ''Piper's Tune''. The show had a huge following, and consisted of a mix of music, guests and the regular feature, "Give a Neighbour a Hand," in which listeners would offer advice to people who called in asking for help. In 1979, Piper left BBC Radio Solent to join Two Counties Radio in Bournemouth, as the station's first Programme Controller. He was involved with a programme called ''Without Walls'' in 1995. He remained on the air until he retired to Spain with his wife, Dilys. Piper also served as mayor of his home town, Sitio de Calahonda, near Málaga, in the latter half of the 1980s. BBC Radio Solent
BBC Radio Solent is the BBC's local radio station serving Hampshire, Dorset and the Isle of Wight. It broadcasts on FM, DAB, digital TV and via BBC Sounds from studios on Havelock Road in Southampton. According to RAJAR, the station has a weekly audience of 256,000 listeners and a 4.9% share as of September 2022. Overview The station, which began broadcasting on 31 December 1970, is named after the Solent, the area of sea between Southampton, Portsmouth and the Isle of Wight. In 1996, Radio Solent expanded its coverage into West Dorset and South Dorset by taking over neighbouring BBC Dorset FM, which was formerly an opt-out of BBC Radio Devon. Bournemouth () is a coastal resort town in the Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole council area of Dorset, England. Sitio De Calahonda
Sitio De Calahonda is a small town in Andalusia, southern Spain. It lies on the coast about halfway between Fuengirola and Marbella, and is part of the municipality of Mijas. History The town was developed by D. Juan de Orbaneja in 1963, occupying the space between Marbella and Mijas. The town was affected by wildfires on September 11 and 12 of 2011, and again in September 2012.
