John N. Schumacher
John "Jack" Norbert Schumacher (born June 17, 1927 – May 14, 2014) was a Filipino Jesuit historian and educator known for his work exploring the Catholic clergy's role in the 1896 Philippine revolution in ''Revolutionary Clergy'': ''The Filipino Clergy and the Nationalist Movement, 1850–1903'', first published in 1981. Schumacher was born in Buffalo, New York. He became a naturalized Filipino citizen in 1977. His body of work includes ''The Propaganda Movement, 1880–1895: The Creation of a Filipino Consciousness, the Making of the Revolution'' (1973); ''Making of a Nation: Essays on Nineteenth-Century Nationalism'' (1991); ''Father Jose Burgos: A Documentary History'' (1999); and ''Growth and Decline: Essays on Philippine Church History'' (2009). Propaganda Movement
The Propaganda Movement encompassed the activities of a group of Filipinos who called for political reforms in their land in the late 19th century, and produced books, leaflets, and newspaper articles to educate others about their goals and issues they were trying to solve. They were active approximately from 1880 to 1898, and especially between 1880 and 1895, before the Philippine Revolution began. José Burgos
José Apolonio Burgos y García was a Catholic Church in the Philippines, Filipino Catholic Priesthood in the Catholic Church, priest, accused of mutiny by the Spain, Spanish colonial authorities in the Philippines in the 19th century. He was tried and executed in Manila along with two other clergymen, Mariano Gomez (priest), Mariano Gomez and Jacinto Zamora, who are collectively known as the Gomburza. ''Philippine Studies: Historical and Ethnographic Viewpoints'' is a quarterly peer-reviewed academic journal covering research on the history and ethnography of the Philippines and its peoples.
