John Murphy (Australian Rules Footballer)
John Murphy (born 20 November 1949) is a former Australian rules footballer who played in the Victorian Football League (now AFL). Playing career Murphy debuted with the Fitzroy Football Club in 1967 after being recruited from Diamond Valley Football League club Heidelberg, and went on to set the record for consecutive games played from debut -158 matches. This record held until 2005 when surpassed by Jared Crouch from Sydney. Heidelberg Football Club is an Australian rules football club in Heidelberg, Victoria, currently competing in the Northern Football League. History Established in 1876, Heidelberg Football Club is one of the oldest Australian rules football clubs in the country. The Brisbane Football Club, nicknamed the Bears, was a professional Australian rules football club based in Queensland on the Gold Coast (relocated to Brisbane in 1993). The Brisbane Lions is a professional Australian rules football club based in Brisbane, Queensland, that plays in the Australian Football League (AFL). The club was formed in late 1996 via a merger of the Melbourne-based 1883 foundation VFL club the Fitzroy Lions, and the 1987 Queensland based expansion club the Brisbane Bears, with the colours of maroon, blue, and gold being drawn from both parent clubs. The 2005 AFL draft was the 2005 event of the AFL draft, the annual draft of players by Australian rules football teams that participate in the main competition of that sport, the Australian Football League. The 2005 draft consisted of a pre-season draft, a national draft, a trade period and a rookie elevation. In 2005, there were 76 picks to be drafted amongst 16 teams in the national draft. Marc Murphy (footballer)
Marc Murphy (born 19 July 1987) is a retired Australian rules footballer who played for the Carlton Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). He was recruited with the first overall selection in the 2005 AFL draft and served as the captain of Carlton from the 2013 season to 2018. He is the son of John Murphy. Early life and junior career Murphy attended Whitefriars College in Donvale.
