John Miller (Virginia Politician)
John C. Miller (December 9, 1947 – April 4, 2016) was an American journalist and politician. A Democrat, he was elected to the Senate of Virginia in 2007, won re-election twice by increasing majorities, and died during his final term. He represented the 1st district on the Virginia Peninsula, which comprises the city of Williamsburg, parts of the city of Suffolk, parts of York County, James City County and the cities of Hampton and Newport News. Early and family life Born in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania on December 9. 1947, Miller graduated from Northern Illinois University with a bachelor's degree. He married and had a daughter and son. Career Miller worked as a reporter and later was the anchorman at WVEC-TV for 18 years. Virginia's 1st Senate district is one of 40 districts in the Senate of Virginia. It has been represented by Democrat Monty Mason since his victory in a 2016 special election following the death of fellow Democrat John Miller. Paul Trible
Paul Seward Trible Jr. (born December 29, 1946) is an American attorney, politician and academic administrator. Trible was the former president of Christopher Newport University until his retirement in 2021. He was a Republican politician from Virginia, who served in the U.S. House of Representatives for three terms and the U.S. Senate for one term. Education and early career Trible graduated from Hampden–Sydney College in 1968 with a Bachelor of Arts in History. In 1971, he received a Juris Doctor degree from Washington and Lee University School of Law and was soon after admitted to the Virginia Bar. He served as a law clerk for a federal judge from 1971 to 1972, and then as an assistant U.S. Attorney in the Eastern District of Virginia from 1972 to 1974.
