John Masara
John Masara (born 16 August 1991) is a Zimbabwean cricketer. He made his first-class debut for Mountaineers in the 2017–18 Logan Cup on 6 November 2017. In December 2020, he was selected to play for the Mountaineers in the 2020–21 Logan Cup. He made his List A debut on 18 April 2021, for Mountaineers, in the 2020–21 Pro50 Championship. In July 2022, he was named in Zimbabwe's T20I squad, for their series against Bangladesh. Cricket
Cricket is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams of eleven players on a field at the centre of which is a pitch with a wicket at each end, each comprising two bails balanced on three stumps. The batting side scores runs by striking the ball bowled at one of the wickets with the bat and then running between the wickets, while the bowling and fielding side tries to prevent this (by preventing the ball from leaving the field, and getting the ball to either wicket) and dismiss each batter (so they are "out"). First-class Cricket
First-class cricket, along with List A cricket and Twenty20 cricket, is one of the highest-standard forms of cricket. A first-class match is one of three or more days' scheduled duration between two sides of eleven players each and is officially adjudged to be worthy of the status by virtue of the standard of the competing teams. Matches must allow for the teams to play two innings each, although in practice a team might play only one innings or none at all. Mountaineers Cricket Team
The Mountaineers is one of five cricket Zimbabwean cricket franchises. They are a first-class cricket team, based in the Manicaland and Mashonaland East area. They play their home matches at Mutare Sports Club in Mutare. Franchise History Following the decline of the standards of cricket in Zimbabwe, Zimbabwe Cricket decided to use a new set of teams for all the first-class, List A and Twenty20 formats of the domestic game. A total of 5 franchises were named, and the Mountaineers team was based in Manicaland. 2009-10 Logan Cup On their debut in this tournament, Mountaineers finished in third place in the group, with three wins from twelve games. 2017–18 Logan Cup
The 2017–18 Logan Cup was the 24th edition of the Logan Cup, a first-class cricket competition that took place in Zimbabwe. It started on 4 October 2017 and included a new team, the Rising Stars, along with the existing four teams. Mountaineers were the defending champions. In December 2017, Zimbabwe Cricket postponed all the remaining fixtures scheduled to take place in the tournament. Zimbabwe Cricket were struggling to pay players' salaries for November and December and wanted to upgrade their facilities for the 2018 Cricket World Cup Qualifier, which took place in Zimbabwe in March 2018. Initially, the tournament did not resume after the Cricket World Cup Qualifier, with the final three rounds not being played. 2020–21 Logan Cup
The 2020–21 Logan Cup was the 27th edition of the Logan Cup, a first-class cricket competition in Zimbabwe, which started on 9 December 2020. After originally scheduled to start on 3 December 2020, the tournament was moved back a week to allow time to setup a bio-secure bubble. Five teams took part in the competition, including the Southern Rocks, who last played in the 2013–14 tournament. There was no defending champion, after the previous tournament was voided due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Four matches were played during December 2020. However, on 3 January 2021, Zimbabwe Cricket halted all cricket in the country following a rise in COVID-19 cases. In mid-March 2021, it was reported that the tournament would resume later that month, with the next round of matches starting on 18 March 2021. List A Cricket
List A cricket is a classification of the limited-overs (one-day) form of the sport of cricket, with games lasting up to eight hours. List A cricket includes One Day International (ODI) matches and various domestic competitions in which the number of overs in an innings per team ranges from forty to sixty, as well as some international matches involving nations who have not achieved official ODI status. 2020–21 Pro50 Championship
The 2020–21 Pro50 Championship was the nineteenth edition of the Pro50 Championship, a List A cricket tournament that was played in Zimbabwe. It started on 18 April 2021, with five teams taking part, and was the final domestic tournament in Zimbabwe's cricket calendar for the 2020–21 season. There was no defending champion, as the previous tournament was voided due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Following the conclusion of the group stage, Tuskers and Eagles advanced to the third-place play-off, and Rocks and Rhinos qualified for the final of the tournament. Bangladeshi Cricket Team In Zimbabwe In 2022
The Bangladesh cricket team toured Zimbabwe in July and August 2022 to play three One Day International (ODI) and three Twenty20 International (T20I) matches. The original tour schedule was for two Test matches and three ODIs, but the Test matches were replaced by the T20I fixtures. All the matches took place at the Harare Sports Club. Prior to the series, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) named Nurul Hasan as their T20I captain for the tour, after Mahmudullah lacked performance and results. However, Nurul suffered a finger injury during the second T20I match and was ruled out of the rest of the tour. The BCB named Mosaddek Hossain as the team's captain for the third T20I match.
