John Marsh (composer)
John Marsh (31 May 1752 – 31 October 1828) was an English gentleman, composer, diarist and writer born in Netherseal, Derbyshire, England. A lawyer by training, he is known to have written more than 350 compositions, including at least 39 symphonies. While today known primarily for his music, he also had strong interest in other fields, including astronomy and philosophy, and wrote books about astronomy, music, religion, and geometry. Life and career Marsh lived in Dorking, Gosport, Romsey, Salisbury and Canterbury before settling in Chichester in 1787 until his death in 1828. As a concert organizer, he was responsible for the music making in the towns and cities where he worked, especially in Chichester, where he led the subscription concerts for some 35 years. Marsh was perhaps the most prolific English composer of his time. His own catalogue of compositions lists over 350 works, of which he lists 39 symphonies. Jack Marsh
Jack Marsh ( – 25 May 1916) was an Australian first-class cricketer of Australian Aboriginal descent who represented New South Wales in six matches from 1900–01 to 1902–03. A right-arm fast bowler of extreme pace, Marsh was blessed with high athletic qualities and was regarded as one of the outstanding talents of his era. His career was curtailed by continual controversy surrounding the legality of his bowling action; he was no-balled multiple times for throwing. As a result of the debate over the legitimacy of his action, Marsh never established himself at first-class level and was overlooked for national selection. John Marsh (priest)
Francis John Marsh (born 3 July 1947) is a British Anglican clergyman. He was Archdeacon of Blackburn in the Church of England from 1996 until 2001. Biography He was educated at the University of York and ordained in 1976 After curacies at St Matthew's, Cambridge and Christ Church, Pitsmoor he was the Director of Pastoral Training for the Diocese of Sheffield. His last post before his Archdeacon's appointment was Vicar of Christ Church, Wakefield. In 2011, Marsh returned to ministry after a ten-year break. He is Priest in Charge of St Michael the Archangel, Emley and St James the Great, Flockton in the Anglican Diocese of Leeds. He is also an honorary Diocesan Training Officer. John Fitchett Marsh (24 October 1818 – 24 June 1880) was an English solicitor, official and antiquary.Marsh, John Fitchett. On the incorporation of Warrington in 1847 Marsh was appointed town-clerk, and held the office until 1858. He was instrumental in establishing the Warrington School of Art, and the Public Museum and Library. John Marsh (June 5, 1799 – September 24, 1856), later known in Spanish as Don Juan Marsh, was a physician, ranchero, and linguist in California when it was still part of the Republic of Mexico. Born in Massachusetts, Marsh immigrated to California in 1836, where he became a Mexican citizen. He was baptized as Roman Catholic in order to buy land, and acquired the vast land grant of Rancho Los Méganos in Contra Costa. Samuel Skelton (died August 2, 1634, Salem, Essex, Massachusetts Bay Colony, British Colonial America) was the first pastor of the First Church of Salem, Massachusetts, which is the original Puritan church in North America. Biography On February 26, 1592/93, Skelton was baptized in Coningsby, Lincolnshire, England where his father, William was rector. He matriculated at Clare College, Cambridge, in 1608 and graduated from the University of Cambridge in 1611 and earned a master's degree there in 1615. He was curate of Sempringham, Lincolnshire, c. 1615-20 and probably later chaplain to the Earl of Lincoln. In 1619, he married Susanna Travis at Sempringham. John Allmond Marsh (6 March 1894 – 5 November 1952) was a Conservative member of the House of Commons of Canada. He was born in Guelph, Ontario and became a business executive. Marsh attended public school at Hamilton, then Peterboro Collegiate Institute, then the University of Toronto. He was an alderman for Hamilton, Ontario from 1936 to 1937. He was first elected to Parliament at the Hamilton West riding in a by-election on 22 March 1937. John Webster (bef August 16, 1590 – April 5, 1661) was an early colonial settler of New England, serving one term as governor of the Colony of Connecticut in 1656. Early life Webster was born in Cossington, Leicestershire, England, the son of Matthew Webster (1548–1623) and his wife, Elizabeth Ashton. Career In the early 1630s, he traveled to the Massachusetts Bay Colony with his wife and five children, settling in the area of Newtowne (now Cambridge, Massachusetts). He left in 1636, in all probability with Thomas Hooker and his adherents, to settle Hartford, Connecticut. His first public office was as a member of a committee that joined with the Court of Magistrates in determining the course of war with the Pequot Indians. John Henry Marsh (born 31 May 1948) is an English former footballer who played for Stoke City. He played as a right back. Marsh began his career with his local club Stoke City making his debut in 1967. He soon became a member of Tony Waddington's first team in the 1970s as Stoke enjoyed their most successful period in their history. March played in the 1972 Football League Cup Final as Stoke beat Chelsea 2–1 to claim their first major honour. He also played for the club the UEFA Cup.
