John Leslie Jambor
John Leslie Jambor (July 10, 1936 – January 18, 2008) was a Canadian geologist and mineralogist. Jambor was an exceptional figure in the field of mineralogy and a major contributor to the Mineralogical Association of Canada (MAC). Jambor has a Scopus h-index of 38. Life and work The son of first-generation Slovak immigrants, Jambor was born in Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec where he spent the first decade of his life. At the age of 10, Jambor and his family moved to Burnaby, British Columbia. He developed an interest in the earth sciences at an early age and after graduating from Burnaby South Secondary School enrolled into the University of British Columbia to study Geology. During summers, Jambor took to traveling British Columbia, Yukon, and the Northwest Territories to expand his studies in geology. Jarosite
Jarosite is a basic hydrous sulfate of potassium and ferric iron (Fe-III) with a chemical formula of KFe3(SO4)2(OH)6. This sulfate mineral is formed in ore deposits by the oxidation of iron sulfides. Jarosite is often produced as a byproduct during the purification and refining of zinc and is also commonly associated with acid mine drainage and acid sulfate soil environments. Physical properties Jarosite has a trigonal crystal structure and is brittle, with basal cleavage, a hardness of 2.5-3.5, and a specific gravity of 3.15-3.26. It is translucent to opaque with a vitreous to dull luster, and is colored dark yellow to yellowish-brown. Porphyry copper deposits are copper ore bodies that are formed from hydrothermal fluids that originate from a voluminous magma chamber several kilometers below the deposit itself. Zinc sulfate is an inorganic compound. It is used as a dietary supplement to treat zinc deficiency and to prevent the condition in those at high risk. Gunningite is one of the minerals in the Kieserite group, with the chemical formula . Its name honours Henry Cecil Gunning (1901–1991) of the Geological Survey of Canada and a professor at the University of British Columbia. Occurrence Gunningite is rare. The Campbell River is a river on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada. It drains into Discovery Passage at the northwest end of the Strait of Georgia at the City of Campbell River. Keno Hill, Yukon
Keno City is a small community in Yukon, Canada at the end of the Silver Trail highway. Keno City was the site of a former silver- lead mining area proximal to Keno Hill. Keno City is 13 kilometres away from Elsa, Yukon, which is owned by Hecla mining who currently own and operate the various Ag-Pb-Zn deposits in the Keno Hill area.
